Where’s all the sign? Oh it’s next to that stand over there, and that other stand there. I must have passed a dozen stands today, I walked a good 13 miles in total. I checked 3 separate areas only one of which didn’t have any stands hanging already. This area is on the backside of a cypress swamp that surrounds a flag pond with tall Florida grass and short palmettos. It really seems to funnel into it. With much joy I trekked into it, found quite a large cotton mouth and a few trails. Nothing that looked super beat down, but I’ll keep my hopes up. It was my last day out before the season opens. Y’all hunt the area hard and push em into that swamp for me! Haha

Reach out to pinman, he can tell you where not to go. On second thought, maybe go exactly where he says not to go? I’m starting to think he may just have a strange odor about him…. Or something.

THIS. True dat bout the odor....I only recently found out me using Irish Spring soap MIGHT be an issue.... I sweat ALOT too, I think I inherited my Moms Kentucky blood. Between those 2, Im sure I leave scent everywhere. LMK where you want Deer pushed out of and Ill hunt it! Edit; It'll cost ya a backstrap though....

I hiked through the Green Swamp East WMA from the Rock Ridge entrance to the 471 entrance one year after turkey season. I saw one deer in the camp site off of Rock Ridge and heard one blow in the middle of the night. ONE DEER

Cross at Mizell. Hunt the other side of the creek.
I used to wear them out at B Creek in the 80s.

How is that wma? The roads are pretty good and not that many you can drive. You either going to do a lot of walking or riding to get away from people. The rut there is late Jan/Early Feb and they do kill some nice ones out there it just gets hunted really hard.

GSE and GSW primary rut is Christmas to New Year's. Second phase would be about a month later and those bucks roam a LOT.
Like most busy areas, find the sign and then get there first. At this point in BC you'll be looking for some second phase action or bucks that get bumped.

It will be a blind walk in hunt as I’ve never been there before. I’ve kinda avoided it because someone had told me I’d end up with a stuck truck humping it back to camp. However it seems people here are saying different. Thanks for the advice.

The main roads in GSE & GSW can be driven with most any two wheel drive vehicle. As mentioned you may see it crowded especially around the holidays. Good luck if you go.

A - I didn’t know they stole it. My family hunted it before I was born and some of them worked for the original owners at that time. We hunted it until the “water board” got it. I’m familiar with the sale and very glad the state and water management district owns it. I do agree the purchase under the pretense it would work as a reservoir east of 471 was a little or a lot bogus.

Eminent domain = stealing (with some compensation, but not enough). add insult to injury the WMD didn't use the land for the purposes that it was stolen for.... Bull Creek should be given back to the Kempfer family and the unwashed masses kicked off.

A - this doesn’t apply to the GS properties. When Agri-Timber purchased the property from the Cummer-Roe family’s it was heavily timbered, grazed and they planned to farm it (row crops). My uncle was still managing the cattle ranching for them. AGR-Timber decided to sell and that’s when the water management district came up with their plan. I actually turned the water management on to a few thousand acres that Agri-Timber planned to sell to a developer. So you can be right on Bull Creek as I don’t have any facts on that one. The old Cummer ranch I am up on. Our family lived the sales and one of my aunts and one uncle were employed there through it all. I still have some old letters and cards to my aunt from both the Cummer and Roe families.

It's Richloam just to the north where half your truck could disappear in what might look like a small puddle.

Yeap GSE and GSW both have excellent roads. Richloam not even close. You better have a fairly big 4x4 vehicle to drive around those woods. Some pretty good hunting along the river on the SW corner of Richloam where it butts up to GSW if you can get in there. If it's wet good luck regardless of what you drive.

Despite the 5 days of rain we had, I hunted Saturday - Tuesday. I may have gotten skunked. However not all was a loss, seen a spike the first morning, and a doe with her yearling two days later. Most of the areas I scouted were suddenly under water! I should have seen that one coming. I had to leave a camera out there because I didn’t feel like swimming for it haha. Quick on my feet I had to find new areas to hunt, I could have pushed myself a little harder to walk through some of floridas nasty thickets it offers, however being new and being alone I decided I wasn’t as tough as I thought. I enjoyed every sunrise and every sunset. The season isn’t over and I’ll be back at em before then!

Slow Down Hotrod... Get you a light folding chair and as soon as you find the first Trail..Back off and sit down. An hour later walk a couple hundred yards and sit on the next Trail. Your Never gonna sneak up on a Buck...Never. Your Scouting with a rifle... Works great for hogs but it ain't shit for deer.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a tree stand harness? The one that came with my climber is a pita! I was looking at the one from summit but it’s a little pricey. Saftey first though so it ain’t all about the money.

Hunter Safety Systems make several real good ones. I have the Hybrid. The pockets are perfect and it's kinda lightweight. Put a Razor Letter opener thing in the front pocket to cut yourself out if needed and your Good to Go. Your getting hard learned advise from a hunter of over 50 years. 10 Ladder stands , 2 climbers , about 5 ground chairs. I ain't there to make friends... Kill One bro
