Unfortunately, there are very few game wardens who actually are knowledgeable about "fish and game".

Yes, while that may be true, Joe, those knowledgeable professionals are getting harder to find. Even the bios who lived on your street have left FL for better, more scientifically friendly positions in other fish and game departments.

Unfortunately our FWC is spending hours keeping our border safe, providing traffic control around highway construction and patrolling storm damaged properties for looters.

I believe when that article was written we were under the jurisdiction of the GFC. It looks like people found as much fault with the GFC back then as some people find with the FWC today.

Yeah, I could have more properly said "a few have very little knowledge"..... Like the 2 that came to my house to ask my then underage son about his picture on FB holding a Turkey a couple days before the season started, even though it clearly said in the post the pic was from a year prior. Who also told my son that the officer had cut me slack for an expired Turkey permit when he checked me a few days prior even though when he checked me I knew it expired that next day. (Long story that left a bad taste in both our mouths). Or the other one that told my friend he could not have fishing gear in the boat at the same time as hunting gear.... Theres plenty that have been great and helped and I have a couple phone numbers, but the bad tastes are hard to get rid of.....

I talked to one at MINWR who told me geese could not be shot in FL period.
Not all know the rules. It is their presentation that leaves the taste.

here we go again with the back in the day crap,,,, well back in the day you built relationships with the warden in your wma/area, for years and years it was maria out in the glades, not gonna name everyone but john c was a warden i knew very well from the slough, dinner island and other wmas and a few other really good officers, hunters and fishermen doing a job protecting the resource that they also enjoy and engage in. today every single year its some new guy or gal or someones who is not sure what they are who,s gonna stop this or stop that and has there own idea of whats acceptable and you can try to defend all you want but hiring a wildlife officer who doesnt fish or hunt is a really stupid move. some of the new hires from the last 10 years are ruining what was once a solid reputation as far as officers go.

Sounds like Charlie would rather sit in his lonely little office and write about negatives in life instead of actually getting outside in the real outdoor world. There are plenty of outdoor writers who don't/didn't last...because they're scared of bugs, snakes etc. or...well fill your own blanks.
I've met plenty officers in the woods and in town that are really good guys and way outnumber the few that aren't so friendly and helpful.

Some get into FWC just to get their " ticket"....and some experience so they can move on to some other agency that doesn't pay peanuts....either game agencies in other states...or in a regular PD or Sheriff's office. Throw peanuts...get monkeys 😉
