did a little recon mission late yesterday afternoon to the wma i plan to hunt next weekend, had a climber and a ladder stand in back of the truck. fwc officer stopped me at a 4 way . did not expect to see a officer on a wednesday at 7pm out there. he asked why i had the stands in back of the truck and i started to laugh, said i always drive around with them before season opens so they get any human scent washed off by wind and rain. he just smiled and asked i dont put them up because if some mary stumbles across them then calls fwc he may be the one who has to go out and take it down. fair enough but what if i took a sharp turn and the stands fell outa the truck and landed deep in the woods and palm fronds covered them by high winds with 0 chance of someone finding them ,, he did not respond to that. great guy, he hunts and is a big fisherman so it was nice to run into a fwc officer who loves his job and is doing it for the right reasons. yes unfortunately my stands fell outa the truck around sundown but i think i know the general area.

I hate when my stands get jarred out of the truck bed and roll under a palmetto...
Was it officer Stone?

Well at least if you run into him again, you have some rapport. He'll still write you a citation and confiscate the stand but be very nice about it. 😆 |

Make sure your stands are in your truck when you see him again… I’m not against chaining a stand to a tree and using it nearby. Have an 80+ yo guy i hunt with, easier than carrying 2 stands and an old man. Keep telling him to get handicap tag so i can drive closer. |

I think I would just tell him they are for wildlife viewing/photograph. Then move it to another tree when its legal to place stands and now its a hunt stand.  |
