My thoughts are this... The Deer will lay up in the high grass or Fennel on a south facing area and keep warm. Bout early afternoon they'll head to the Oaks or whatever to feed. If true..Early morning hunts ain't worth going. Hunt the afternoons and evenings up in the Bands of Oaks around the flat ponds and swamps. What say you oh Pro hunters..?

As we often replied to a similar thought while standing around a campfire or sitting in a roadside diner…”that sounds as good as anything else”.

From my experience the deer will get up in feed mid/late morning once it warms up a tad. I've sat many of cold morning hours from daylight to 9am or so without seeing a thing. Then that sun warms things up a bit and the deer start moving.

Same same. Movement starts right about when I've had enough of the cold and head in. I also tend to get busted in the mornings on the way to my stand. So lately I'm enjoying the walk to the stand at 3pm for an evening sit. Tends to be a little less cold too.

The morning hunts are getting much less appealing to me as well, but having to clean 4 or 5 deer after dark is no fun either. And, getting up the next morning after that is even harder to enjoy. I don't know how many more years I have left in me to do that.

I see most mature bucks within the first or last minutes of daylight regardless as to temperature. I was raised to believe they’re more active on cold mornings, but my experience has been that cold is neutral on movement. Instead, unseasonable heat will shut them down when its previously been cool. So I avoid hot days later in the season, and hunt if I feel like it on very cold days.
In places where rutting coincides with late-fall cold weather, I see a lot at the crack of day during a frost. I like to be overlooking a long stretch with a rifle right on the first cold, clear, morning after a late November front has moved through.

I’ve always enjoyed seeing the sun come up and setting all year around. A battery powered vest still helps w the real cold days. However I’ve killed more bucks between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. As a dear departed hunting buddy always declared, “the best time to go hunting or fishing is to go when you’re able to go. Don’t wait on a perfect weather time to go.” I still subscribe to that position.

Exactly Swamp. My hunting time is limited because of life right now, so unless the conditions are life threatening and I can get to the coffee pot on my own two feet in the morning, I'll be there.
I may not "love" the situation, but I will find a way to make it work, and I'll be there.

When I worked I hunted at dang near every opportunity. When I retired I found every excuse not to hunt, too wet, too cold, too hot, tomorrow will be better. I have become a mere shadow of my former self.
