It having gotten dry enough a little early this fall I've been hard at mowing and clearing trees from fire breaks of late. Plenty of rubs and scrapes to be seen......but.....in the last two days.....the condition of the scrapes has been much more active, as if they are putting more effort into it again. To be expected at this point in the cycle. And then this morning a unfamiliar buck, at least 8, maybe 9, came across the road in front of the house looking about for does.
I'd bet a dime to a dollar that the next few days will be busy in the woods......busy.

An easy 10 in my side yard last night/this morning. Just mulling around for hours hoping to bust me when I step out the door. Jokes on them, I'm 150 miles away eating their buddy

Seems the last two weeks things slowed down around here in the Bend. I hunter hard for 3 days and saw Zero deer...not normal for me. The Temps were in the upper 80's , High humidity and the skeeters were terrible. Good cold front this weekend and I'll be burning it up. Sat in a half an old Ladder stand this morning about 5 ft. tall and had a small Buck and a doe walk within 15 ft' of me. I could have jumped on them..

Gonna run some hounds this weekend. Looking forward to the camaraderie and a less serious hunt. Hound music, lunch breaks, steaks on the grill and finally sitting by the campfire weather for at least one night.

I hunted Friday night in Osceola county. Nothing. Nada. Not a living creature moving. Slept in on Saturday morning and went in the woods early, just after 1pm. Saw deer on their feet in the middle of the day. Got in the stand over a food plot by 3. Not a deer until 5, and the Man showed up. He was rubbing and scraping like crazy. Finally gave me a shoulder, and boom. He ran 45 yards, and piled up against a fence. 5 1/2 year old 9 point. 177 pounds. Pictures to come if I can figure it out on my Mac.

Had a great weekend. No bucks taken this time, but the races were great and I saw plenty of does and a couple of mystery deer. Saw three big long beards, a few porkers and a fox squirrel. The weather was great, and the night sky produced one very bright falling star I witnessed while kicked back at the fire. There is something special about being outside all day listening for the dogs to jump, while being alert to everything around you. That night and last night were the best sleep I’ve had in a while.

Was down south at my dad’s place. The weather was great. Only sat on Saturday morning but saw several does and a nice tall 8 point. Saw another buck chasing a doe so there must be some secondary rut stuff going on. (Pops also saw one chasing about a mile away.) Rode the buggy with the ladies in the afternoon and saw very little moving. Did see one of the 3 biggest gators I’ve seen in my lifetime (and I’ve seen and killed some monsters), he was every bit of 13’. Sunning on the edge of a cow well, looked like he never had his tail bobbed, tapered all the way to the end. Did a little fishing too, confirmed there are now peacock bass in the rim canal. Was a good weekend and headed back down on Friday.
