I want to repeat this for those who won't read the longer reply above
THE SAVE ACT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SHOWING I.D. TO VOTE!
IT IS ABOUT REQUIRING PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP TO REGISTER TO VOTE!
You guys are arguing the wrong issue.

We agree! And luckily, thatโs already the law. Unfortunately, you are trying to make it harder for US citizens to vote.But.... making it harder to vote isn't necessarily a bad thing, it just sounds that way. Making it too easy to vote could be a bad thing.ย Just do what Alabama did. Make em get new IDs to vote then shut all.the state troopers offices down (where we get IDs) in the poverty riddled black belt where the poor black folks would have to find a ride a couple of county's over. Totally unrelated coincidence. ๐ Gerrymandering has never been an issue either.

When I READ the bill text, I had no problem with it. Have you READ the bill text? And how does providing ID that is compliant with the Real ID act make voting harder? It has not made voting harder for me when I show my ID to vote. A lot of things are made up issues.. Isn't congress responsibility to submit a budget? This continuing resolution habit is like taking 3 martini lunches every day for years and expecting your boss not to say something to you when you miss deadlines. Are you sure you read the bill? It is not a requirement to show I.D. when voting. It is a requirement to prove citizenship when registering to vote. It requires the REAL I.D. act documentation provide proof of citizenship. A driver's license does NOT provide proof of citizenship even though it is REAL I.D. compliant. You would need a passport or birth certificate or Naturalization Certificate to be eligible to register to vote. It is much more complicated than showing your driver license to vote. The other issue is, it requires the state to remove people who can not be verified as citizens and they must go through the process to re-register with proper documentation. The law is vague on how the state makes that determination, so many states could just kick off all voters who registered without providing proof of I.D. which would include many of us on this forum since a lot of older members filled out a registration card long ago before you had to provide documentation and signing the oath was sufficient. How would you like to get a letter in the mail saying you were no longer registered to vote and had to prove your citizenship to be able to vote again and by the way, you are ineligible for the fall election due to this new requirement? The bill is poorly written and designed to remove valid voters from the voting rolls. It could affect millions of legitimate voters to maybe catch a few people who may have slipped through the system. Kind of reminds me of the left's version of punish legal gun owners for the acts of a few who break the law. This bill punishes legal voters due to the acts of a few. Here is a copy of the funding bill. The Save Act is Division B, in case you would like to re-read it. www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/house-bill/9494/text?s=1&r=1I read the stand alone save act bill which is linked hereI have not read and compared it to the one that you linked in the appropriation act, and honestly that would require a lot of effort for a minimal reward as a top finisher in an internet pissing match. So I concede it have not, and bow out of said pissing match. So when I ve won a pissing match in my young, dumb and full of come days, and got a trophy for my efforts once. But that does not count as it was in real life, and not on the internet. I guess I don't see the issue as a deterrent to voting and taking it away. Now I'll admit I've had a FL driver license from before the real Id act, and if I remember back 3 or 4 dog years when FL started it, there was some requirements relating to citizenship and driver licenses. Yes I grumbled about it then, and may have had to track down a copy of a birth certificate upon renewal. It could have been for voter registration renewal/update, as I said 3-4 dog years ago. Now I am aware that there may be drivers licenses without the voters registration citizenship associated with them. So if showing I'd is not a requirement to voting, why is it requested when I vote? Is it like the 4473 forms that are held by the dealer, but a atf agent has a list of everything the dealer sold to who in the last year that's not supposed to exist by law?

Today's world. Focus on that. What woukd leave you to believe that is not Today's world? In today's world nobody is going to say " If I have to show proper ID , I'm not going to vote " If they really want to vote they will come up with the proper ID if it's required. You can ask around though and see if somebody would actually say what I don't think you will find.

Closing the location they had to go to get ideas to make it harder on them was. If you do t have a pot to piss in or wi.dow to throw it out driving g two counties away to get an ID might be a little more difficult than you think. I only have to go a couple of miles to get mine. And even if that was closed I coukd go to the other side of town. But I'm not poor or elderly. They did that shit deliberately. To discourage that populations voting. It's hard to believe that that kind of poverty exists but I have been there. And the gentleman that quoted me above lived close to there. Its pathetic that people ha e to live that way. But there is absolutely no industry or jobs. You're either a super wealthy land owner or you are dirt poor.

You canโt vote unless you have a red ballon, then close down all the ballon stores.

Is it like the 4473 forms that are held by the dealer, but a atf agent has a list of everything the dealer sold to who in the last year that's not supposed to exist by law? It says the same thing as the amendment and has nothing to do with showing I.D. to vote. A Florida Driver's license or I.D. will not meet the requirement of the SAVE Act for registering to vote. A Florida driver's license does not prove citizenship. Non citizens can get a Florida Driver's license and the actual drivers license does not have anything indication on which version you possess, so the Driver's license can not be used under the SAVE act since the act requires the document provide proof of citizenship. I know it took a few weeks to get a certified copy of my birth certificate from the state when I had to get a copy. Why punish innocent citizens who want to vote just to try and catch a few who may break a law that is already in affect. This just adds more bureaucracy to the states and punishes legitimate voters over an issue that does not exist and was created by Trump. The Act also requires removing people who are not proven to be citizens which could remove millions of voters from the rolls and require them to go through the process of re-registering. An I.D. to vote is a state law not a federal law. A federal law requiring I.D. to vote would likely not survive a court challenge due to the constitution granting state the right to controlling voting.
