Sunday morning......Lake Palatka......at least that's what our place looks like at this time. And it's still warm......with too many mosquitoes. But, as archery starts in a week and out of respect we don't mess our hunters up unless they all give us permission this was our last chance to have a go at the hogs for a while. The only one we caught....a stout barr......was worth the effort to get out of the woods. Had to shoot him, something not usually done, because he was backed up in a place where all the dogs had to go at was head and as you can see by the picture the dogs, while excellent trailers, and silent until they jump one are not real big. It's a trade off......they can run a LONG time.....but now and again are just not big enough. One of them got 8 stapes before we started out of the woods with hams, backstraps and some of the rest of it......just too far to haul it with only three of us, one being OLD! And he was not the big one we had on camera and posted video of a couple of weeks ago......that one is even bigger.............

Getting rid of one Barr hog ain't gonna do anything about a Hog problem. He can't even breed anyways. Makes a nice slow BBQ cookout but that's about it.

Interesting. I know you say that’s not the same hog as earlier and it’s hard to judge his size, but I almost suggested the video a week or so ago looked like a barr hog. His credentials didn’t appear to match his body size and he even acted a little submissive to the other porkers.
I hear you on the “old”. Been getting ready for this weekend and I’m starting to question my sanity. Woods are WET, bugs are bad and the temps are high.

We spoke to the dogs about their choice of what to run down. As you can imagine, their response was that if we could do better that they'd hang back next time and let us get it bayed up. We shut up after that.................

IMO any dead hog is a good hog. That one won't be killing pine trees, rooting up roads and pasture and competing for food. Besides that one will be edible. Good Job!
