We couldn't get permits to fix our house after the 2017 tornado. We were 4 feet below the flood plain. Those houses had been there over 50 years.

Take a look at the aerial maps with all the development along both our coastlines. It doesn’t take a genius to understand what’s gone wrong. Too much coastal development. Over the last few years, millions have been spent rebuilding the beaches. The sad thing is the next storm can wash all the replacement sand back into the Gulf. It kind of proves the definition of “crazy”. Keep doing the same things over expecting a different outcome. It’s one thing to replace a manageable portion of the beach or the wetlands. It’s impossible to replace significant portions on a frequent basis. It’s a difficult thing to assign values to insurance floodplains that have to be remapped because of development fill impacts.
