It's a double edged sword, the telling of the world how amazing the St. Johns can be.
On the one hand, maybe?, it'll get folks more interested in protecting and preserving it. While on the other hand we're more likely to now find someone on one of our spots, in my instance spots we've fished for over 50 years. Actually fished a set of pilings today that was a dock when I was a kid, a dock we had access to.
Louann and I only fished two spots today, maybe 2 hours total......5 reds and 2 sheepshead.....one of the reds bottomed out the Boga Grip.
And PLENTY of shrimp......even a few that ended up in the cooler rather than on the hook!

I just am not finding reds on a "spot", so apparently your spots are safe. I'm finding them all over the place, and mostly NOT around docks. These fish were in 10 feet of water.

You're right.....they are all over the place.
As Louann and I and the fiends I usually fish with are all fish eaters we are always targeting what we can carry home and not so much big stuff. For sheepshead, drum, mangroves, stripers, sunshines and the like structure/docks located in a good AREA are a big help. We'd do something different if big fish was the point for us.
Kind of like with the tarpon, I get how much fun folks have catching them. But.....we had speckled trout Sunday night, redfish Monday and Tuesday and crabmeat from our traps that were baited with the scraps last night. Tonight it'll be sheepshead off the grill and then the next 3-4 nights we've got variations on redfish.
And......the scraps from what got cleaned yesterday are out in the traps so with luck crabs done up in some way should be mixed in here in the next few days, a dozen or so of the larger shrimp we caught to be mixed in with it.
Can't have any of that with tarpon or oversized reds.
Different joys for different folks......and of course.....different techniques, "spots", "docks" or "areas" for different hoped for results.

Amen Bswiv. I’ve caught a lot of fish and some big ones, however today I like a mess of legal fish to eat. I don’t fill up the freezer, but I’m happily known as a fella that knows how to fry and grill his catch. BTW we love a red cooked on the grill or in the oven when it’s laying in a bed of salsa, with a little salsa on top wrapped in aluminum foil and cooked to perfection. Fish on folks.

Like swampdog I love to eat fish and can't believe you let those two big beautiful cats go back. I could already see filets in cornmeal and in the fryer with a cold beer ready
