I'm a slow eater..........doesn't bother me at all to spend a couple of hours at a table with a bunch of friends working through steamed crabs or piles of oysters. Yet.....I've family, both on my side and Louann's ( Mostly on hers! ) who if they can not jam it in and be done in 15 minuets get annoyed. Have one BIL who loves crab meat......but ask him to sit and pick and visit......he'll settle for 3 WAWA hotdogs....... What is that caused by? My guess is "culture".......but maybe to genetics.....the particular BIL being rather primitive........

And people that do not routinely spend 2-12 (or more) hours cooking. And then add in the harvesting 😳. Lack of appreciation.

I’m also a slow eater. If I’m in a hurry, I go with a smaller portion, like a piece of meat wrapped in a slice of bread and I’m good. Eventually I have time to enjoy a meal with good conversation. I can actually lay my utensils down while enjoying my food and talk with folks. I don’t like talking while chewing and find that a little repulsive when someone is spitting while talking.
Actually was at a Chinese buffet one time with two coworkers. We were all into our second platter when one guy sneezed all over the table and the guy across the table. The guy receiving the blast looked like someone peppered his shirt with birdshot. The sneezer embarrassingly apologized and we all slid our plates to another table, and restocked anew. The guy in the path of the sneeze moved across from me…

When cooking large amounts for guests, I normally eat while I cook. Damn right I’m getting the best pieces!

Cultural, I believe you said you had Sicilian blood. Makes sense you would enjoy sitting around and enjoying friends and family after a long hard day or week of work.
Life gets so busy sometimes you need an excuse just to put everything aside and appreciate the people you love.
Sunday dinners at Grandmas house were not voluntary. And it wasn’t eat and run.

Some folks regard eating like going to the gas station. Just refueling.
Others see it as a social event.
Others see it as an occasion to savor favors and textures.

Cultural, I believe you said you had Sicilian blood. Makes sense you would enjoy sitting around and enjoying friends and family after a long hard day or week of work. The part about cooking it that 4ward posted.....and this part.....coupled together makes up for most of probably. That appreciation part....yes. And too......the actual cooking part.....the time...often with 2 or 3 playing a part......communial event.....

In Zagreb if someone invites you for a simple coffee you had better plan on 2 hours at least.

Eating hot or warm food that has gone cold = Cold food that has made it to room temperature = Cheese that has dried over = Bag of chips and some room temp dip or the like = sure lets let that rest and eat as we go.

Shoved collards and a little smoked venison into the slow cooker a while ago and have some salmon throats and sword belly out to go with it. Something to look forward to after we sweat a while in the woods...
