I got invited to tag along on a charter with Joe and Celeste Bendis out of Cbelle. Originally scheduled for Monday, some boat problems forced Captain Tommy Merrell to reschedule us to Wednesday the 12th. Captain Tommy and his mate, Michael, worked hard to get us on quality fish all day.
Leaving the no wake zone at 6:55, we were greeted by a beautiful sunrise.
4 1/2 miles out we stopped to check bait traps. After filling the bait well with 150 or so live baits, we were off. Ran about an hour out past the 30 mile mark. It didn't take long for the action to begin.
After a few more moves during the day, we ended up with a great box of fish that included red snapper, red grouper, and
a decent scamp.
Celeste had the biggest snapper at 19 lbs, but we all caught big fish. I was high hook for the day and managed to boat the majority of the grouper.
Let me tell you....pulling snapper and grouper that size out of 180 feet will make you realize how old you've become. I had to leave the rod in the holder on the last couple! Lol
