I'm having problems with my shoulder so my doc gave me a shot and set me up for PT. It seems to be working already.

My experience with cortisone is that you come home on the local anesthetic and you think it's worked great. The local wears off and you swear it didn't work but give it a couple of weeks and bam, it feels pretty darn good. Good luck

Not sure I received a local as she stuck me in the butt, only once. Unless she mixed me up a cocktail.

The only cortisone shot I've ever heard of was at the site of the inflammation. I asked my wife, an RN, and she said the same.

The only cortisone shot I ever got was right up the tip of my tail bone for a old compression injury and chipped vertebrae. I took the first of the 3 shot series without being knocked out. I told the Dr they were going to have to knock my big ass out for the next two. But, it does work miracles for certain types of inflammation and pain management.

I went to the dermatologist and he said I don't want that to scar anything. He proceeded to call in an assistant that was about 6'2" and 240lbs easy. Out comes the cortisone shot and he hits it right dab in the middle of my nose tip. I was lucky to have the 240lb guy holding me down or that needle would have gone through the back of my skull. All over a pimple.. Unreal.

Lucky it wasn't skin cancer. Those numbing shots before they do a biopsy suck big time.

I have an inflamed rotator cuff and have had one, didn’t do shit for me and no local just right in there. They didn’t see a tear in the x rays so I have been just hoping pain will go away for a couple months now, but it hasn’t. I guess I need to go back and see the shoulder specialist but was really hoping not to.

It’s a therapeutic , not a cure. The more you use it the faster it will wear off. So no dry walling the ceiling or transmission swaps.

I just got my second shot, first one was in January, this one was a week ago. The shot was in the knee to relieve pain from a Bakers Cyst which is behind the knee. Doc says I can get one every 4 months if necessary. She sprayed some numbing spray on the injection site before sticking me.

Just one small warning on the shots.......they can make you feel better, almost as if it was "fixed" and then rather than really giving it time you can go on and ruin it completely.
Experience on that one.
Both shoulders have been rebuilt. Can't throw but they don't hurt and I can work, fish, toss the net, run the chainsaw.....whatever. The surgery wasn't bad...
