Ran down to St. Augustine Inlet after pulling shrimp traps off the dock here in Fruit Cove, three days of working them having produced about 5 dozen shrimp ( It's early. ). Fished two spots and home by noon..... Limit of mangroves and lanes.......plus one nice drum and a blue ended up in the cooler. A pigfish too. Tossed back more drum, a sheepshead and more than a couple of short mangroves and lanes. Ceviche the next couple of nights!!!  |

Any special treatment for the drum? We usually catch and release them. This one......removed the backbone and ribs and stripped the pin bones, the collars and the scales left on and the sides still attached............. Out of the inlet they are as good as a red of the same size......... In the "olden times".....back 50 years when we were kids!!!.....the smaller the better..... |

They are a cool fish and a big one is a brute to land. For some reason we rarely ever catch a small one. Mostly fishing around/in Charlotte Harbor.

Nice mix. We keep the big pigfish too.
Drum usually fillet out nice, freeze good too. Fried drum set off my gout once so i dont keep many for personal but will give fillets to coworker lady or let whoever is fishing w me have it. Good eating.
Blues that size are good.

Cob reds and 12" trout scaled, headed, gutted, and fried like brim is the best |
