The growing emphasis on horn blowin' ... er... bragging, rather than having a good time with camp buddies killing a few deer to eat will ultimately close the door to deer hunting for the blue collar man. A few simple club rules are one thing. Having a hissy fit because someone killed a bigger set of horns is ridiculous. I don't know about you guys, but I'm looking forward to killing some does! going on my first scouting trip this saturday, picayune strand in the morning to put out a couple cameras in same old area been hunting for past 10 years or so then hit holeyland/rotenburger on way home. gonna put out my new and first time using cell cameras. 1 in each wma as well as a few old school cams. Waking up to a bunch of notifications for the cellphone camera ought to make you feel like a kid on Xmas morning, but even more-so when you get those daytime pings!

Meats job productivity just went down a few bars. I see more screen time in his immediate future. Meat, God bless you for still tackling Rot and Holey Land. I do miss those places, but to hell with all the work required to hunt out there. Make sure to paint your name on a power pole to secure your camping pad so I can find you. When I've hunted as a guest I usually ask one question. Where has nobody hunted on the property this year? Usually works out in my favor. exactly, they stick you in what they think is the worst spot. think i told this story before, in hendry county at my buddys old lease they gave me a 800 acre flooded cattle pasture, i walked out to the middle 6 inches to a foot of water the entire way in the dark and sat down on a fold out chair, 7.15 am i hear splashing behind me when i turn around a huge buck is running straight at me so i spin around and use the chair as a rest the buck spots me and stops broadside at 40 yds. hard to miss that shot with a scoped muzzleloader. every guy on the lease had pictures of this buck and it was there number 1 buck they were after for 2 years. yea i was banned for being lucky. Them big bucks don't get big from hanging around a bunch of hunters. They will slip up during the rut but that's about it. Last time I hunted I went to a friends place in Echols County, GA. We drove around most of the afternoon showing me the lease. He was showing me all the shooting houses/food plots/feeders etc. Places that have been hunted to death. As the day went on I said where is some place nobody has a stand or feeder. He said there's this spot by the highway and there's a swamp nobody has hunted for a couple years. We drive off the highway down this short dim woods road that ends at the swamp. I get out and walk around the edge close to the dead end. Rubs everywhere coming out of that swamp. I set my climber up on a pine with about a 75 yard view that evening and returned before daylight the next day. I had a decent sized 6pt on the ground within the first hour of daylight. It ended up being one of the bigger bucks they killed that season. Had a guest on another lease kill a nice buck less than 100 yards from the camp. He could hear people talking at camp before just before he killed that buck too. Hunting right behind check stations/camps on WMA are good places as well.

"Meateater - all hunts 24/25" i stopped marking poles and not hunting poles already marked 7 or 8 years ago. 75% of the poles marked get hunted opening weekend and thats it. seen a few nice ones this year on a couple fishing / snake hunting/beer drinking trips. i dont put in as much time and work as in the past, find a few rubs, run a few trails with 4 wheeler, throw up a stand and thats it, and 500 yds from the truck is my max unless im on my 1500 watt yz 125 ebike . i still live 35 minutes from the entrance so afternoon hunts are easy, hot but easy.
