Guess it's easier to just hire contract killers to deal with the problem than to give a public hunter a opportunity? Almost reminds me of the financial waste for paying sharp shooters to kill hogs at Corbett a few years ago when they could have earned or saved $ by letting a few public hunters in to correct the issue. Wow - someone is tying the survival of the caribou to removal of predators. Go figure - you sure they don't want to import more bears and wolves like we do down here.
Then i got sucked into the alexander buck story - supposedly guy shoots monster buck while trespassing and then takes it to his sister's place for photos and story fabrication. Plus he sold the story ($2K) and the antlers ($10K) and photo rights so we'll all buy some product ($8K?). State is gonna rake him over the coals and see if he'll catch fire. Grand jury was involved. All over deer antlers.

Https://www.outdoorlife.com/conservation/bears-wolves-killed-help-caribou/this is a huge Cash cow for Alaska DNR...There are probably not 81 capable hunters left... that want to pay to go to SW mainland Alaska for Alaskan Brown bears aka Grizzlies.... One nimrod dies trying to take out an Alaskan Brown bear... The lawsuits will cost Alaska tens of millions if not hundreds of millions of dollars.....
But Caribou tags are in high demand.... And now that the dominant grizzlies are not there...Anyone with a guide can shoot one safely.... In SW Alaska.... No need to go above the arctic circle...

limited tags and large protected no hunting allowed areas caused the problem, alaska did what had to be done before before the caribou population was decimated. few more years colorado will be in the same situation.
