Did three days last week with fly anglers in the canals west of US 27 - and we wore them out (my anglers...) using simple flies and popping bugs... Not the biggest fish but lots of them - peacocks, largemouths, oscars, mayan cichlids, a few bluegills, and one small black crappy. If we can avoid another cold kill this next winter - the fish will be bigger. Here's a pic or two...
male peacocks were particularly aggressive - just slamming flies and poppers
this largemouth hit the same small poppers we use in the brackish backcountry out of Flamingo and Chokoloskee... It's called a SpeedBug since this small foam popper is very quick to tie up, ready to use the next day...
Water temps? Oh my... just a shade less than 90 degrees by noon each day (water temps down at Flamingo were 90 degrees just after dawn these past few days... Rains... Yeah we need some rain to cool off these super warm (for this time of year) backcountry waters... My next booking - a night trip in the Bay (thank heavens for night trips....).

Absolutely.. My usual run down to Flamingo or Chokoloskee is 93 miles to the ramps (I'm at the top of the "triangle"). I'm very used to nearly four hours each day commuting - but local trips every now and then are welcome. Tonight it's a night booking with a start at 9pm - and only 30 miles to the ramp....
