I’m 5’11” and 185, but I work out 3-5 times a week and generally eat low carb and healthy. Portion control is a big part of it too. I should be 175 but I always seem to snack a little at night which doesn’t help. I also have wine most nights during the week and beers on the weekend when fishing. I’m not fat but also not ripped like I used to be. Still pretty fit though. Surfing helps too.

Can't conceive of packing all that lard around. I have the opposite problem...if you want to call it a problem. I'm skinny as a rail at 5'11" (down from 6'1") and 150#.
My stomach has shrunk by now and can't hold much, so I feel full after about 12 - 14 oz. of food.
Biggest problem is no desire to eat. I can go all day with just a couple of snacks, then pass on dinner, too. Not good.
I can't force myself into a workout regimen, but love to hike. Unhappily, I can no longer get past 4 miles in a day and hurting badly at that. No amount of extra seems to help - 4 miles is it...3 miles comfortably.
I look and feel best at around 170# or so but can't get back up to it.
You may sneer and say, "wow, you call that a problem ??" It IS a problem and not much to do for it.

256 this morning. Dropping below 250 will be a big milestone for me. I haven’t been below 250 in about 5 years or more.

280 April 5 2023. 220 now. Took phenetamine for several months, then started skipping a pill one out of three days, then 0ne out of five. Completely one with them 3 months or so ago. I've kept off everything I lost. Mainly just eating smaller portions. Oh yeah. I stopped drinking tea. There are two kinds, one is sweetened, the other is not finished yet. I think that was harder for me than anything else.

My brother is 5'9" and weighs 150 and I swear he eats as much or more than me. Everyone is different. Watch some of the skinny competitive eaters on YouTube if you want to see unreal food eating.

Not to pile on, and I agree 100%. I truly believe it is metabolism first, diet second, and restraint third. I'm 55 years old, 5'6", 135ish, same as I weighed in high school and college. I don't eat junk food or too many carbohydrates, nothing processed. I do walk at least 5 miles every day, and was truly blessed with great metabolism.

I do believe that genetics plays a major role in weight taken in light of the modern world and the changes to human diet that it offers.
If I was slinking around a deep Florida hammock in 1880, living mostly off of animal protein and foraging, I would be in shape. When having seasonal starchy or high-carb crops such as corn or potatoes that I would have either grown or traded for, the fat that I would put on would be a great benefit, giving me some leeway to miss meals if I had a few bad days of hunting, fishing, or foraging.
I believe that we northern European types are basically barbarians cloaked in technology and our metabolisms reflect an adaptation to a hunter/gatherer/pastoral lifestyle in temperate woods.
If I was of one of several Asian groups, I would be more likely to be adapted to a high-carb diet.

What I never figured out is why many Asians are not overweight when rice is their primary meal with a small amount of protein and vegetables mixed in. The same people when they come to America eat the same diet and gain weight.

The same people when they come to America eat the same diet and gain weight. I'm with you on that. We have a pretty good number of Chinese here that own all the local small grocery stores. No reason to explain why, that I know of. Point is, I know many of them and their families. All skinny and look great. I can't explain it either, except I know they eat in moderation, and I know they all eat rice, I see them eat it even when they are working. I have noticed they eat mostly vegetables, and no junk food. So who knows?

David I noticed my local Publix is selling conch from Belize now. $16.99 per pound. The price doesn’t scare me away and I was thinking about buying some but I will only buy it if they sell me whole 5 lb box still frozen as I don’t want to get a product that has been defrosted and sitting on display for days. I didn’t realize that you guys were exporting conch. Do they have laws that you can only harvest broadlips or do they allow harvesting of rollers too.

Weighed 210 when I graduated from high school, but that was sixty years ago. From my 20's through my 50's 225 was a good fighting weight. Now, at 77, I am holding around 250.
