On January 29, 2024, I weighed exactly 290lbs. Once upon a time I was 6’, but these days I’m more like 5’10-5’11. I usually also stay around 250-260. I start feeling uncomfortable in my skin when I get close to 270 so when my weight gets close to that I will diet to get down to 250 again.
About a decade ago I had got to 280. I remembered that when I was a pudgy pre-teen I did the 90s Adkins diet and lost a lot of weight then stayed slim through my early 20s. So I did low carb 2015-2016 (before it was called “keto”) and I lost 80lbs in 6 months. I ate lots of venison and eggs. Also, I didn’t count breaded, fried food in my carb count. So also lots of fried chicken. I camped or hunted most weeks and would usually lose my weight around camping trips. Sometimes up to 5lbs per trip. Then when I quit low carb I stayed under 250 for a long time.
Last 6 months of last year I just ate what I wanted, including fast food multiple times a week. I did do portion control but that was irrelevant. My body simply can’t process carbs or processed food without turning it to fat. I figured that I’m at midlife and what the heck? Might as well eat what I want and resign myself to being fat and old.
Around Christmas and early January I started seeing videos on my social media feed of people doing total body transformations, going from flabbier than I was to heavily muscled and fit, without crazy routines or unrealistic diets. The common denominator was time. It seems that with simply healthy eating and moderate exercise, it takes about 2 years to transform the body. But its consistent. The transformation happens if you stick with it.
On January 29 I went in to work and as I sat at my desk I hated how tight my suit was. It hit me all of a sudden that now is the time to start a 2 year body transformation. So at that moment I texted my wife that I was going on low carb again and from that moment on I’ve been doing strict low carb.
First two weeks I lost 10lbs. That’s to be expected. That’s water weight and it always falls off quick on a low carb diet. After that, my weight loss was slow. I only lost an additional 7lbs to April 22 for a total of 17lbs since January 29 to then. That works out to up to a lb a week, which is considered healthy. I’ve been lifting weights regularly and presumably building muscle. I could see some mild difference in my muscle tone in my upper body. I also started some intense ab exercises in April on a machine I got specifically for abs.
So two weeks ago is where things got interesting. For a couple of weeks I had stalled out at 272-273lbs with no additional weight loss. I got frustrated so I started fasting breakfast and I modified my low carb diet to count calories (normally you don’t count calories on a low-carb diet).
All of a sudden I started losing nearly 2lbs a day. Then I quit fasting breakfast but making sure my calorie count stayed low. Fresh meat, eggs, and veggies only. Nothing processed even if its low carb. Black coffee. No sweeteners even if they’re sugar-free. All the Coke/Pesi Zero I want.
Today after butchering the bull, I am 257. Tomorrow I’ll probably be 255-256.
If I eat big (which I’ve done the last two Thursday nights by eating out at a great Italian place) I’ll maintain my weight if I keep it low carb and just eat large portions. If I eat carbs I’ll gain a couple of pounds. Thursday morning I was 259, then after a big dinner of all the homemade bread I wanted, with fried goat cheese and blueberry sauce, and veil with a salad and sautéed spinach, I was 262 Friday morning. Then I started losing again yesterday when I returned to my normal diet. I was 259 before a breakfast of 2 eggs. Then 257 after butchering the bull.
So its fascinating to experiment with myself to see what the cause and effect is between foods and weight loss or gain. Seems like the key for me is low calorie and NO carbs. Normally on a low carb diet you eat up to 25 grams of carbs a day. I was doing that. But I’m doing best with virtually no carbs and low calories.
For example, I love peanut butter. There’s lots of peanutbutters that are low carb. I have some that is 3 net carbs for 2 tablespoons. That would let me eat several tablespoons a day and stay in my carb count. But turns out each serving of 2 tablespoons is also 210 calories. So I was likely eating near 1,000 calories of peanut butter some days. Which interestingly, didn’t make me gain weight. But it stopped me from losing weight. Its encouraging that when I get to where I want to be, I can eat lots of low carb things that currently may stop my weight loss, but not make me gain either.
My goal is to be a muscled 200-220lb. I haven’t weight lifted since high school. I want to get ripped. Then pose shirtless in a cowboy hat with one of my roosters and make the “Chicken Daddy” calendar and look like a stud as opposed to a joke.

I just want to see 300lbs again before I die. I was doing real good. I will say that some of it was stress. Bit I was also eating better/less. Then the outage started and it's hard to eat right when they buy us food all the time and bring snacks cookies and ice cream. So basically you're in and out of the shop all day and snacking in between. I managed to blow up 15-20lbs in the last couple of weeks. I have been around 330 for years but the last 18 months or so between surgery and laziness I had ballooned up to an unacceptable weight and felt like shit. But I post most of it and got down to 325 early April. Time to get refocused and start eating no/low carb. I love bread and potatoes so it's a struggle. But if I buckle down I can see 300 by July if I really try. I noticed that when I broke 330 I became more active and "springy" in my step. I haven't worked out in years. But I really need to start back. Targeting my glutes, quads, and shoulders. I have absolutely no ass anymore. And I think that is only further hindering my back problems. I don't have the muscle mass I once had by a long shot. So 290 may be an even better target than 300

I’m taking the shots. I’m losing weight. I eat everything but very small portions. I’m just not hungry anymore. I would like to exercise more but everything is broken up. Shoulder needs second surgery. Both knees need replacement. Hip needs replacement. Back and neck have so many bad discs that it seems to be impossible to believe.
Dock told me about 10 years ago that he never saw an mri of a knee with so much damage and the person was still walking on it. I think it had about 22 problems.
The whole idea of losing the weight is so that the orthopedic surgeon will work on my legs.
Lost weight rapidly a long time ago. It came right back. The whole thing is it has to be a lifestyle change not just a diet. Man I long for the days when I used to work out a couple hours a day. I felt like I was Superman.

Yeah Many years ago I lost a bunch of weight and fast. 30-40lbs virtually overnight. I looked bad. My dad threatened to have me committed. My business agent asked me if I was on "that shit". I wasn't on anything just stressed to the point of illness. I think I was 280 or 285. And everyone thought I suddenly had picked up meth. Which if you know me is particularly hurtful since I have never done anything other than alcohol. Not even cigarettes or dip. Which everyone including half the girls I went to school with did. I hadn't been that "small" since probably 10th grade. But everybody said I looked bad. For years I coukd drop 20lbs in a couple of weeks at will. Lol. Not no mo

I have done hundreds of diets in my life and they always fail because you go back to the same old bad habits eventually.
When I retired in June of 2022, I decided I was changing my eating habits completely. I weighed 340lbs when I retired. I now weigh 245 lbs and hope to get down to 220 to 225. I told my doctor my goal was to be overweight and no longer clinically obese according to the BMI charts. I was 6'3" at my last physical and need to be below 240 to not be classified as obese.
I gave up 99% of fast, junk, and sugar food. I also stopped using butter and reduced red meats to a few times a month. Like right now I made meatloaf, which I will eat for 3 days in a row, and no more red meat this month. Mostly chicken, fish, and eggs for proteins. Lots more vegetables and little prepared foods except non-sweet cereals like cornflakes or bran flakes for breakfast. I also repurchased a Bowflex in 2021 and use it daily for weight training and have a course of exercises for core muscles and to help my back. I spend about 90 minutes a day doing exercises.
I can eat like this for the rest of my life and it is not a diet that I will go off of at some point.
Another thing I did and I recommend this to bullfrog or anyone else, I downloaded lose it, a food diary app that is quite helpful. I use the free version, but it also has a premium version that breaks down all the food nutrients you are eating. It helps you realize the "hidden calories" you don't think about and helps you make a healthier choice in the future. There are other similar apps to choose from. I just picked one with decent ratings.
Good luck to anyone trying to lose weight, I know the difficulties quite well.

I was going to ask, why stop artificial sweetener in his coffee if he still consumes it in sodas. Lot more of it in those sodas than he would put in his coffee. There has been studies that show diet sodas increase your desire for other sweets and can cause weight gain. They are definitely bad for you health.

I've also heard Cocaine works wonders.. Most of the Hotties in the Trailer Park swear by it. Hard alcohol can also help you lose weight. The calories in liquor is not fat, carbs or proteins your body can use.

Intermittent fasting works wonders. I rarely eat until 12 and shut the train down at 530 to 6. I always feel great
