Went out by myself. Left the inlet around 7:15.
Ran out and found some patches that were weedline like at 1000 feet. Caught a 28” mahi at 9:00 going past a nice patch. Couldn’t get another taker.
The lines really formed up around 10:00. Got another mahi on a nice line with lots of life.
Trolled back around to the same spot on the line, and I thought I saw two fish hit my far lines at the same time. But nothing popped.
Then a split second later my right far line pops off the outrigger and starts zinging. It jumped once, so I assumed mahi. But then it was down a little - not mahi like.
Meanwhile some a-hole comes running up to me to see what’s up, and crosses my other lines. I had turned the boat away from the weedline on purpose, so no other boats would interfere.
Anyway, I finally see color… and oh sh-t! I needed my gaff because it’s a wahoo. 41” not a monster, but it will probably be the catch of the summer - with only 12 days left down here.
I decided what I saw wasn’t two fish going after my baits. It was the wahoo coming perpendicular at high speed. Very cool.
When I left I said to myself “3 decent fish and I’ll head in and relax.” I kept my word. Home by 11:00.
