6/30 took my dad out. We ran out to 1000 ft, stopping a few times to check out small weed patches. Started trolling out looking for life. Found some ok weed patches, but mostly unorganized weeds. Around 10:30, we were passing a fairly large patch heading west in 1250 ft. I saw a mahi dart under the boat towards the patch. We caught 3 keepers, from 22”-28”. Headed home 20 minutes later.
7/2 I went out alone. Around 900 ft found the beginnings of a weed line. Got a double hookup with two shorts. Trolled it for a while and didn’t get any other hits. Ran out a little further, found a few patches. Started heading west and worked a patch with another boat. We each caught a few shorts before giving up on it. Found a nice weed line around 1000 feet while trolling west. Got two shorts. Then got a very nice sized tuna. That was the best fight of my summer so far.
Oh - I spotted the largest mahi I’ve seen since the early 90s under the last weed line. It was like looking at a green wall. He was unbothered by my boat and my baits. When I circled around he was gone.

Good report, fishing a tournament the 15 th hope i can find that big one. Yeah when the line started screaming from the fat skipjack tuna, I had this fantasy it was that mahi. Love the tuna, but that mahi would have filled my freezer and made my summer.
