Me and the wife have an Air BnB this Saturday with a pontoon boat in Astor. Never fished there before but am considering bringing my pole. Is the fishing worth it?

Visited all three of those springs when I went to camp in Ocala back in the early 60's. Camped on Lake George as well. Some mighty big bass there back then.

Juniper is a puddle with extensive picnic facilities. If you've snorkeled Silver Glen you've seen the stripers. If you swim under the rope line there's a deep well full of them circling... kind of like being inside a dark hour glass full of fish. Pretty cool. Also you should check out salt spring at the north end. Again, blue crabs...

When we at Alexandra springs earlier this year you had to make a reservation for summertime just to get in the springs of Ocala. Crazy it's gotten to that.

This post was started back in March, but if you're there this time of year there is generally a bunch of stripers caught at the croaker hole in Little lake George. Chuming and fishing with grass shrimp is generally the best way to catch them.

Don't think we'll make up that far north considering we will be staying in Astor. Any place to fish for them on the south side of Lake George?

My mate will be up there that week, staying in Astor as well. I thought about joining his family and dragging the airboat up to ride but I have too much other stuff going on.
The springs are cool to hang in.

The mouth of Juniper Run,the mouth of Salt Run and the mouth of Silver Glenn during the week. Probably small Wild Shiners would be your best bet.

Thanks I've caught them in North Georgia before but never in Florida. We are going out on the lake Monday. Gonna try Juniper Run.

The Croaker Hole would be about a 20 mile run from Juniper. It can excellent this time of the year when the water is hot. The Croaker Hole is a big underwater spring and the stripers gang up in the cool spring water. P.S. I don't know how it is now but years ago the "strippers" gathered at the Silver Glenn on the weekends and holidays, so there's that. Have fun

Some buddies caught 25 or so stripers at Salt Springs a couple of days ago. They were using small wild shiners and they would hit the dead floaters just about as well as the live ones.

Just heard another striper report, a friend of a friend had 14 over 10lbs at the mouth of Juniper Run. I'm pretty sure he was using wild shiners. In my experience the best time to catch them is right at dark and a couple of hours after.

On the Illinois River there are all sorts of stripers, white bass and hybrids. We used to catch them on dead minnows better than live. We used to say “the deader the better”
Don’t know why

Strippers generally want a live "minnow", stripers aren't so particular. 😉

I know of no stripper looking for a dead minnow.
