So I'm still trying to figure out fishing down here, originally from NJ, been down for a couple years now, don't to fish as much as I'd like....
Went out the south creek from Largo Sound then due east out of the channel to just shy of the 100 foot ledge anchored in about 45 foot of water. Got the chum slick going but not much life in the slick. Saw a couple fish(turned out to be triggers) but no ballyhoo or blue runners or really anything else. Fished live shrimp on a 2/0 hook on about 2 foot of 20 pound flouro leader. started fishing about 10:45
Had the best success in catching good sized fish that I've had so far, caught 7 yellowtail all over 16 inches and a large trigger that was sniffing my baits all day and finally hooked up a little after 2 just as I decided to call it a day. I was deadsticking a high lo rig with 2 dropper loops and a 2 oz weight with 2 dead shrimp, got a double header of a nice sized mutton and a jolthead porgy (had to look that up). No small fish all day.
I had a bunch of lines cutoff with almost no feeling to them at all, saw line starting to spool off, close the bail and reel, feel absolutely nothing and the leader is cutoff.
All in all a great day.

The cutoffs were probably Cero Mackerel. Good going on getting the nice Tails. Nothing wrong with that. Ballyhoo have been non-existent on the reef lately.

I was thinking, after I got in, maybe kingfish. For the Ceros or Kings what do you rig? light wire leader? You do that and I assume you're giving up on trying to get the tails right? Thanks for the info, every little bit helps

If I have live pilchards I put a spinner with 20# and a short wire leader out back, but if targeting just YT I focus on those and the cutoffs are just the price you pay. Maybe once you got your YT you can switch to dropping back with a short wire leader. I bet those are Ceros in 60' which will hit YT baits. Excellent Ceviche.
