Since I got the engine hoist and the body will be off. I thought about changing the clutch by pulling the engine. It has been 40 years or more since I did a clutch. They sell kits with the alignment tool. If I pull the engine, if my memory is correct, the throwout bearing will stay with the transmission and only the clutch and pressure plate comes with the engine. Once I change them and replace the throwout bearing, I can just re-install the engine and be done with it.
Is this correct or am i forgetting something?

Yes, you are forgetting to hire a mechanic

Yes, you are forgetting to hire a mechanic I was a mechanic, 45 years ago. Just been so long and we dropped the trannie to change the clutch, not pull the engine. But on the jeep with 4WD and the body off pulling the engine, seems like it would be easier. But thanks for your help.

Never worked on anything with a carb or a clutch , but if you need an extra pair of hands Cad I’m within driving distance. Your build is very interesting.

It’s been many years since I did any serious mechanic work but that’ll work fine. You’re separating the two whether it’s in the vehicle or out. It’s also better than laying under a vehicle using a lot of strength unless you have a jack or a lift.

Don’t forget about pilot bearing/bushing. Some remove them with a puller, threaded tap or a grease gun to force it out of end of crankshaft

If it has been adjusted while in use, may have to back off on adjustment for easier install. That is if it has manual adjustment.

I've always pulled the gearbox, not the engine.
I had a TR6 back in the day and the manual told you to remove the seats and pull gearbox up and out.
It way actually much easier the having it fall to the ground with you under the vehicle...

I used to help buddy w his VW bug - My job was to run the floor jack - drop tranny down and back, then up and forward. We got pretty good at it. Did that 3-4 times.

If it has been adjusted while in use, may have to back off on adjustment for easier install. That is if it has manual adjustment. The fork is not connected to the clutch pedal assembly. I have to adjust once I install all that. It does have a manual adjustment on the rod that connects to fok.
