With the NDBC's meters on Fowey, Molasses, and now Sombrero out of commission, I'm wondering where we can go to see current wind readings. I know it may come as a shock to many, but forecasts and current conditions don't always match and I like to see what it's currently like before heading out. My only source right now are the palms in my yard. If the fronds are more than 30 degrees out of position in the same direction, it's a no-go! Any help would be appreciated.

I use several weather sources for planning purposes... Here's the one that comes closest to what you're looking for.. An app called Willy Weather... It does fairly accurately depict wind speeds, has very accurate tide predictions for nearly everywhere locally (including the upper bays in the 10K area... ) - but here's my caveat... add five miles an hour for wind speeds over the water as opposed to the land and you'll be much much closer to actual conditions in my opinion..
The other apps I use are My Radar - which very accurately provides current radar info (provided you're within cell tower range of course)and The Weather Channel app for overall predictions as well very handy info about everything weather related, including radar info (including current info and a few hours worth of predictions...).
If I could afford it, I'd also have Sirius radar for real time weather no matter where, without relying on cell phone data... but then you're also getting into NMEA stuff for rigging purposes...
At some point the phrase "you're going to need a bigger boat..." begins to come into play...
Hope this helps...

Only 2 of the above 6 listed are reporting wind speed. It's a damn shame they can't do better job. A forecast is no substitute for real data.

The ball has completely been dropped, way more red diamonds than yellow on the map. Are they planning on fixing ANY of the OOS bouys? Our tax dollars at work...

Periodically the ones in Everglades National Park go down - but only for a day or two - usually... I've found simply adding five miles an hour on top of whatever is forecast was pretty reliable - all those years ago when I was blue water type.... After retreating back into the Eveglades it was obvious that my chosen area has it's own weather peculiarities....understatement, when on the gulf coast you get one wind direction and only a mile or two inland and the winds are dramatically different in direction and strength...
