Gorgeous here in South FL this morning. Covered 13 miles on foot scouting for gobblers. Found a whopping 2 sets of tracks. None were heard at sunrise. Also ran into about a dozen deer and a big ole boar hog. Pains me that they have a season on public land now.

Use to hunt there on the South end 20 something years ago. Place use to be full of deer. How is the population now? I know it got pretty thin for a while. Saw one of the biggest bucks I've seen in Florida there. He stayed just out of bow range.
Those are some beautiful woods. We use to camp at Mutual Mine.

The deer population is fair. Not what it use to be 20 or 30 years ago. And there are big thick horn bucks that come out of there every year.

I worked that horse trail from 17 to 15 then went down to Oak Park North and worked a dog. Lot of hikers there that freak out when seeing hunters lol I stopped at the check station later at Burnt bridge, quite a few hogs pulled out of there this year. There is a few quail in Homosassa but had a negitive encounter with a hog hunter some years back so I don't work that much anymore.

There has been a older guy in a Grey Toyota working his pointers up 15 around 8... I've seen birds west and north of the check station at Burnt Bridge. They just burned parts of that area but didn't touch most of it as you go north. There's only one other hunter besides myself that ive seen in that area..this coming Sunday is the last day open....good luck
