Hi guys -
Just got an email.
FWC wants you to make a difference and support the SAFMC Release program where you report every reef fish you catch and release - information about the fish, descending device, shark predatation, etc...
I'm not in the position where I actually trust them with the ocean fishing stuff. Not with the 2 day ARS season and previous threats to close bottom fishing cause the unprecedented number of ARS are being overfished when you can't keep em off the hook. But telling them about every fish is supposed to help and not hurt. My hand still hurts from the last time I put it on the hot stove.

I do have trouble keeping up with the constantly changing regulations for the saltwater species here in the s/w. Almost afraid to keep anything.

You're dammed either way. Surveys are the precursor to tighter limits and deeper restrictions.
If it was up to me I wouldn't report anything. At least that way I can always point out that I didn't drive the nails in my own coffin.
Right about now will be the time for the goody two shoes to enter this conversation and tell me that lack of reporting will result in the same... and I will agree... damned if you do. Damned if you don't.

Easier to write new laws than enforce the ones we have.

I do have trouble keeping up with the constantly changing regulations for the saltwater species here in the s/w. Almost afraid to keep anything. I went fishing there in Florida and let me say that here in Italy is worse. We have to deal between XIIX Century rules, current and former national rules, current and former local rules, EU rules, etc. I release almost everything (even by choice). Anyway the situation is worsening worldwide. As more bureaucracy grow (driven by people who go outdoor only to reach the parked car and radical dumb environmentalists who enforce their own politicized "science" from their city downtown pentahouses) as more it will be complicated. Their goal is discouraging as many people as possible, since fishing is not politically correct. They want less people around but who pay more (in order to not lost their revenue). And better avoid to speak about hunting rules. Here it's not safe going hunting not having a lawyer as game buddy...

Well the commercials with reef permits can now takes 75lbs of snapper every day until Jan. , but now looking at current regs. it appears they have a much longer season on Atlantic side.? Only 1 a day for us on Atlantic side for 2 days. We are allowed ONE gag grouper 3 ag limit. Commercials... 1000lbs a day until Jan 1. When we get thermal clines here off Brevard Co. in summer commercial divers will shoot every cold lethargic grouper that has come into shallower reefs seeking warmer water. AND this will continue till they shot everyone or the water warms and they back deeper.
Recreational fishing or hunting has NEVER threatened the demise of any species finned, furred or feathered. As soon as you put a bounty on their heads destruction and greed take over. Our whitetail deer once had $$$ on their heads like bison did too Today is more corrupt politically and commercially than ever before and don't hold your breath, it won't get better.

Get the Fish App. It's free, uses gps to identify where you are, and gives you all the data you need on seasons, size limit, possession limit, aggregate or not, good eating or not, restricted tackle and more. It's updated right away anytime something changes.

Tell them nothing. Their goal is to eliminate recreational fishing entirely and give all of the fish to the commercial fishing industry.
There needs to be investigations into the connections between commercial fishing and the politicians who are making the rules governing fishing.
Something isn’t right. It smells very “fishy”.

What you said, absolutely. Maybe the politicians are expecting recreational guys to pony up campaign cash before they listen to us, cuz bet that's how commercial interests get their ear.

Outdoor life has an article that the NOAA recreational harvest numbers are 3x higher than the actual catch.

Yes get a fish app they claim to have the regs for where your at. They might just get a kickback from tickets,, not sure. Was in Marathon in June. I was checking through fishing regs on Fishbrain. It said spiny lobster was open. Not even close I knew better. Went to FWC site for the rest of my checks. Best source is the folks that make the regs.
