Got out the inlet around 8. Took my dad out (81)
Ran to 1000 feet and finally stared seeing scattered weeds. Started trolling out looking for life.
About 15 minutes after the lines went in, the right outrigger got knocked down and I saw the rod bend then pop up. I was just telling my dad when the middle line got hit hard.
Turned out to be a nice football fat blackfin tuna. I didn’t actually appreciate how fat it was until I l filleted it later.
There were a lot of small scattered weed patches. Nothing was formed up too big.
I tend to run artificials in scattered weeds. The downside is that I kept getting those little jacks that hang out under weed lines. But there was life.
About an hour into trolling around 1450 ft, a 26” mahi hit an and jumped. Somehow my dad kept his balance and brought it in 😀.
As a side note, my texts weren’t going through. So I was surprised when a find my iPhone sound went off 1.5 hours into fishing. That’s family code for SOS.
My 20 year old is traveling and didn’t have access to a computer and needed me to fix something on a game that he just launched… so the trip was over.
I had to run to shore.
Gotta say it was a relief to catch some keepers especially in only 90 minutes of trolling. I said in another thread that we got skunked for the first time in years Monday. (We only live in FL for a month every summer.). There was no life out to 1200 Monday. Yesterday life we everywhere.
