I have been off the water for eight days due to weather! We have had daily lightning storms and rain, bad weather. Additionally, I was under the weather and spent a week on the couch! The weather window opened up for a night trip tonight and Bob joined me at 5. It didn’t take long on our first spot and Bob was hooked up to a drag screamer that was hugging the bottom. When it was time to net him, he brought him to the surface and there was no black lateral line, huge scales and a different jowl, a Silver King (Tarpon)! I easily netted him, although that is when the fight began and he jumped out of the net screaming more line out and beginning an aerobatic show. Bob got him in again and back in the net only to have him toss out of the net again, I need a bigger net. We realized this wasn’t working, so the next time Bob grabbed the leader as I tried to put the Boga Grip on him and as Bob pulled the leader, it frayed by the hook and broke. Officially, this was a landed fish weighing about 35 lbs. He was gorgeous. I was on the Catfish bite real good and Bob hooked another drag screamer, this one had a black lateral line and was a 30 inch Snook…..successfully landed. I finally caught something other than a Catfish, a 2 lb. Goliath Grouper. Other than the first dock, numerous others were ghost towns, not even the nuisance Snapper were present. We worked around docks and bridge pilings and hit a last spot which was the honey hole. I put 8 Snook in the boat and Bob 3 additional along with a 14” Mangrove Snapper. We called it a night at 10:00 as the kitchen closes at 11, if I want to eat, I have to be home and showered before 11 or I don’t get dinner. Had a great night with Bob and happy to be back on the water. Looks like more bad weather rolls in tomorrow for a few days.
