I pulled the slough with 2 points. Hung 3 cameras on Wednesday. One camera is dead, no pictures on one and a spike on the third camera… going back this week to fix and reset them. It’s all good, helps me get acclimated to the heat. May return it if I don’t see anything good, or something better comes along. Good luck in picayune spot burner!👍

i was shocked when i arrived brought my 18inch lacrosse boots figuring with all the rain we been having it would be wet. nope bone dry drainage canals i crossed last year that were 3 feet deep are now totally dry mud in a few spots but not 1 inch of water. areas that no one hunted cause they were flood plains are now dry. a few scrapes a few rubs put out couple cameras seen a few doe and a 6 point. if it stays dry gonna be tough on the road hunters oops i mean spot and stalk guys since the deer wont be forced to the roads or levees by high water. fingers crossed it stays dry. scouted 3 areas i hunted before and all had some deer sign. rut hasnt started but it will soon. left cams on active scrapes so next week i will have a idea of whats around thats if the cams are still there.

Water is lower than usual, but was higher than last week when I initially set the cameras. I moved a couple cameras, pulled a dead camera out and added a couple, we’ll see what happens. Found a new rub that wasn’t there last week, no scrapes were found. Saw a decent young buck, he was still in velvet. Like I said, if I’m not getting much on camera, I’ll return it to have 3 for next year. I use to hunt the same area off twin mills road, lots of pigs back in the day there. Saw a group of about 30 on private driving there.

big changes this year at picayune strand according to the fwc officer i talked to, 3 officers will be working 1 at each of the 2 entrances, 1 out in the field starting on friday day before opener . since this is first year the place is quota only so everyone entering will be checked. also first year going to 3 points on a side or 10 inch main beam so they will be reminding everyone. he also said no more driving the roads with tree stands or raised seating in the bed of your pick up including standing up in the bed of truck looking for deer while truck is moving. gonna be a long line saturday morning for hunters arriving if every vehicle is gonna be checked. also gonna be very interesting this year when they stop a guy with a tuna tower in the bed of his truck and tell him its no longer allowed or just guys standing in the bed of truck since this has been the standard out there for over 10 years.

I wonder if these new regs are a product from bitching and whining from within the segment of the hunting community who whines about their quality experience, or is it just "the man" handing down a decree from the thrones in Tallahassee on their unscientific data?

Theres no rules in the brochure for that. Heck you can use a swamp buggy out there during season.

Damn this place is loaded with lions and pythons and bears. Holy cow, the only other vermin I failed to see was a Sasquach.
