I took my son out for his first time being the shooter. Sat in a spot that I grew up hunting and in less than ten minutes sitting there this deer comes passing by from behind us at about 15 yards. Only thing I had to do was pass him the gun after he set his chocolate milk down and cock the hammer. Deer ran about 80 yards. He has been talking about it all day. He’s thinking that he can get one that matches his age each year, I’ve explained how that is not going to be easy.

It’s hard for me to contain my pride in him. With two older girls and him growing up so fast I am trying to constantly remind myself that there are only so many opportunities to bond with them before they are grown up.
I’ve thought about putting together a map or something to share all my favorite hunting spots with my kids, so that whether I ever get to take them there or not, one day they could go and hopefully enjoy them like I have.

Do it! I took my sons when they were about 12 yo to where I camped as a kid that is now in a WMA. I hope one day they might remember that spot. Congratulations to your son on his deer!
