How long do yall typically let the barrel cool down between shots when testing? I know that can vary a bit barrel to barrel

At the range I find myself shooting 3x, resting, then shooting 3x before the range Master calls for cease fire and target checks. Not real sure about time between individual shots... but a couple minutes for sure.

I'll shoot 5 and then let it cool for a bit - sometimes have battery powered fan or inflator to blow some air on it or down the barrel.

1 round to set baseline and also checks cold bore zero. then start string 5 minutes between shots with battery fan blowing down bore.

I follow one man gangs technique. Shoot 3 and let the barrel cool. I always pay particular attention to the first shot for good technique.

Interesting read here. For years I was mainly 12ga slug man. Nothing I ever shot took a single step before falling over. 50yds being about the longest shot. But sighting in a scope on a pump is brutal, might as well been a 458 mag. Went to the 270 after a 30-06. Rem 700 and now Ruger M77. Never any issue with the accuracy. As far the original post.... at that range I'm putting the cross hairs on the neck just below the ears. Less damaged meat too. Same thing with hogs of any size. NOW if I could just find a 45-70 I could afford it's really game over.

How long do yall typically let the barrel cool down between shots when testing? I know that can vary a bit barrel to barrel It depends on the gun, but you can tell if you start getting fliers or poor groupings. In addition to the tips offered, you can put a cleaning rod down in the barrel to act as a heat-sink in between shots as well. I've even heard of guys keeping aluminum rods from the hardware store in a cooler and sticking them in the barrel. Cheaper, thinner barrels will flex more and more unevenly as the barrel heats. ML barrels seem to be quite susceptible to this effect. You add another problem when shooting sabots as the plastic can be compromised by even LOADING the gun with a hot barrel.

30-06 150 grain Remington Core Lock.
Started out with 150 grain ballistic tips. Not a bad round in the right spot but didn't leave a good blood trail. Lost several deer because of this issue. Switched over to the core lock and don't recall loosing a deer after that.

I picked up a box of both Corelokt and Federal Fusion soft points. Going to get out to the range soon to test.

I shoot a 50-year-old Ruger M77 2506. The only time I have "shot it in" was if I changed something ie: scope or stock or new ammo. Other than that, I only shoot once before season starts to confirm still on. I only shoot once when I kill the deer or hog, so I don't see reason to shoot multiple times.

Good ole Rem corelokt, 165 gr in .06 or 100 gr in .243. Never let me down.
That ballistic tip should have waisted a lot of meat. It may have been going too fast at that close range to open/shatter.

I know you guys are not involved but perhaps this will land even there, a day. eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/PDF/?uri=CELEX:32021R0057&qid=1694425790130Its the ban of all lead ammunitions in the s.c. wetlands. If I carry (just carry, not using) lead loaded ammunitions close (100 meters, about 110 yards) to any water source I risk a felony charge. The same for fishing, since lead weights are banned. I guess a law like this would be a tragedy in Florida. Obviously it's nothing you should concern on right now but I'm afraid this could be a threat even there sooner or later, since radical environmentalist is a growing cancer everywhere. Keep your eyes open.
