Reduced feeding. Really not worth it in the winter up there. They can be caught year round

The entire Tennessee river - and all its dams, etc have great catfishing that you seldom hear about since the emphasis is always on bass (and stripers in some locales). The closest thing I ever had to a home state or home town (we were an Army family) was Huntsville in north Alabama. I grew up fishing Wilson, Wheeler, Guntersville and nearby areas back in the sixties and any time you wanted to go... catfish were always available - year 'round -but best in warmer months... Great catch (and fine eating...).

He doesn't eat the big cats. There's plenty of smaller channel cats for eating.
