Since all turkey kills were required to be reported this past spring I thought by this time at least some preliminary numbers would have been published by FWC. It was an easy process to check one in and I hope most complied. Anyone seen any results?

I'm not talking about the Harvest Results on the WMA page. It's still there somewhere but I always have trouble finding it on that site. Turkey kills on any property (public or private) were required to be reported either by phone or computer to FWC within 24 hours. Spring 2023 was the first year for this requirement for turkey. Florida finally got into the 21st century on this. With all the "exempts" I don't think they really had a clue how may birds were actually taken in year's past or how many hunted them. Deer have the same requirement but that started before this year. If you really want to see how a telecheck system should work look at Kentucky. Right now I can bring up that states system and see the kill numbers by county and the state totals for spring 2023 and previous years. A great tool especially for any public land hunter and helps follow the trends in the turkey population. There is a little more involved in the Florida check in system such as documenting before moving a kill but that can be another discussion. IMO Florida needs actual physical tags but this call in system is a start and better than nothing. As of now it is as simple as installing an app on your phone with a temporary paper option if you don't own a phone or have cell service. EZPZ.

This is being discussed in greater depth in the General Hunting section.

Still waiting on the info to be posted in depth on the FWC site. They DO have turkey and deer harvest numbers from the telecheck system for fall 2022 and spring 2023 for the entire state on both public and private land. What's the big secret? I have my suspicions. 1-lessens the need for Resource Management 2- shows how few turkey/deer are taken on some quota hunts. Leaning heavily on number 1.

Just looked - AGAIN - still don't see the statewide totals or totals from quota WMAs without check stations. A 2024 Turkey Guide is on the site. Pretty pathetic. The phone in/computer mandatory check in should have this info available with the click of a key stroke. Why not??? Pure arrogance? You really don't want to know?

Sent in a FOIA request to FWC for the turkey harvest results from the mandatory check in system. Almost immediately got a reply that they were so darn busy it could take several weeks. A hunter from another forum posted he made the same request for deer and turkey. He received the deer numbers but never received the turkey. The deer results have already been posted and discussed on this forum. Bet the turkey numbers will also be a surprise. I wonder how long they will stonewall on the turkey 🦃?
