10/06 Trolling report near Crystal River

Went out on friday on a calm day and left the ramp early. I ran out about 8 miles to an area with many small scattered rocks, and had the lines in the water by the time the sun came up. The water temp was 79.5 at daybreak, and rose to 81 at 1pm. Continuous waves of bait but nothing was feeding directly on the schools. EVERY fish caught was well behind the trailing edge of the bait schools. They were picking off the stragglers. I only trolled two 10 pound rods, one with a 4" blue Bomber that ran down 4 feet, and the other a 4 1/2" brown and gold Yozuri with a lip that ran at 15 feet. both worked equally well. Later I switched over to 30 pound rigs and bigger plugs over rocks for Grouper. 



The final tally was 1 Blue Runner, 2 Little Tunny, 4 (slightly too small & released) Grouper, 1 King Mackerel, and 10 Spanish that were from 3 to 5 pounds.
