Osceola National Forest is now at 290,000 acres.
The Conservation Fund has worked for years to conserve critical lands around Osceola National Forest. In 2023,in partnership with the U.S.Forest Service,a multi year effort to protect roughly 14,000 acres known as the Suwannee River Woodlands has resulted in USFS Public ownership.( Roughly 9,800 adjacent acres was transferred to USFS in 2018)
The FWCC 2023 Osceola Hunt Map now includes this newest public area addition; East of US 441, between the formerly existing ONF Northwest boundary to the south and Sandlin Bay to the north,Pinhook to the Northeast.
The lands will be restored to their historic longleaf pine ecosystem.
