What our choice, color, size would you recommend for skippys, artic tunas ?
Every time I head offshore looking for Dolphin I run across schools of small skippys or attics offshore but can never get one to bite. I’m putting my lines way way way back but to no avail while trolling on the outskirts of the school. I’ve tried islanders, darts, barts, cedar plugs and jigs but can never get a bite. Any recommendation on what lure type and color have worked for you in the past would be greatly appreciated to see if I can finally get my kids to catch one. Thank you in advance

In Mexico, the most important thing was matching the hatch. If they were feeding on anchovies, then a 1 oz blue and white jig would go out on the long riggers on a 50 wide. Looked funny hanging from triple spreader outriggers on an 81 foot boat, but it worked. Try and figure out what bait is around

Thank you guys. It’s been frustrating to see the birds crashing and skippys chasing flyers to no avail and the kids asking why. I’ve tried time after time to switch up presentations to match the hatch with no takers. I’ve never tried the micro billy bait so I’ll give those a try. I greatly appreciate your feedbacks. Ty again

Ty again also try to guess which way the Skippy’s are chasing the bait and try to get ahead of them and not go through them. If they were chasing flyers, they were after a considerably large bait, a sea witch, and a strip might entice them. I don’t think there is a pelagic fish that I haven’t caught with that combo.

Thank you for the suggestion. I haven’t tried a sea witch before. This past Saturday I ran across 3 schools and they were all on small 3inch flyers between the 51-53 lines off Key Biscayne. I was the only boat out there so it wasn’t a matter of them getting spooked with traffic. I tired multiple passes along the out skirts with no takers. All the life I saw Saturday was in that 51-53line area. Good clumps of grass with a lot of life under them but only saw one free jumping dolphin besides the tunas.

The small Zuker tuna feathers. If the skippys/tuna are around, speed up to about 10 knots and put them back a little. They like them moving quick

I was down there recently and the weeds were so bad that it was hard to troll. I made up a few that I rigged weedless and were about 5" total length that worked well running them WAY back.

Our go-to tuna lure is a pink and white feather way back. We sometimes use our electric reel so we can get it back 250 yards.

I failed to mention the black rubber worms that used to work great on the humps for the smaller tuna.
