So you can't run a mud boat in AREA 3A because the water is too deep, and you can't run a mud boat in AREA 2A because the water is too shallow... Am I missing something? You can't make this stuff up.

For this week... maybe more... typical Everglades WMA type closure. Read it closely.
Water is too high. Water is too low. Come as you are. Stay at the boat ramp though.
You know, life was a whole lot better and the wildlife flourished a whole lot more when there was less of this ham fisted, knee jerk rule making going on. They have fucked up more shit down here in the last 10 to 15 years than they did the previous 60 to that. Access, hunting, and fishing have all been degraded to septic status.

Water to high and can't run one?? Why is that? every year fwc looks for any reason to stop hunting in that part of the glades,,,, high water, low fawn numbers, too dry fire hazard, putting in 1 culvert pipe ect ect ect. personally i think they know the only people who care about the wildlife out there are hunters so by keeping them out theres less chance of the public knowing that they use area 3 as a water storage pumping in as much as they want with no regard for the wildlife. other areas close by are dry but area 3 is flooded . piss poor management as usual, wheres possum poop ron b when you need him, probably holding desantis,s hand at a i hate teachers convention.

Yeah I have no clue what goes on south of SR80. That whole "too much water close it down" thing has been going on for decades. Any place in SoFla that can hold a half foot depth of water or more has become nothing more than water storage. And that pesky vegetation just takes up volume where more water can be stored so nuke anything green. (Did I mention my buddy has a chemical spray company with 50 airboats and he can make a sizable donation to your campaign coffers? wink wink nod nod...) Yes, it is "BOHICA".....although FUBAR might be more appropriate....

Too much water used to mean additional deer hunting so that they would not congregate on the now disappearing tree islands and die of starvation and disease. Too little water meant it was time for a good burn.
Now I do understand there at no deer left out there but that's because 4ft of year round water retention killed them off.
The water levels are be the result of SFWMDs purview, and sadly, now, so is the access and recreation.

Just curious, is the water being saved to recharge the aquifer?

I doubt it crkr. We're at the end of the line. They generally pump it south, east, and west as needed through a vast array of canals.
Let a tropical storm approach and they'll pump water faster than a New York second to make room.
Now understand this: it's a delicate balancing act making sure us stooges in south FL have water when we turn on our faucet while at the same time making sure there isn't so much water that it erodes and washes out the thousands of miles of levys that hold it in. However there are some things that are not natural to the hydrology that don't often get mentioned with this practice. They can say they try to mimic Everglades hydrology but that's not what is happening. The truth is, they are doing what they think they should be doing to keep the average south FL resident happy, and selling their practice as "mimicking nature". You have to understand that this train has left the station many decades ago and since that has happened there is nothing the WMD can do to honestly "mimic nature". Piss poor development plans of the past (and the future!) have ensured the genie never gets back in the bottle so they have to work around what we got.
Having said this without much elaboration, it still doesn't adequately explain all of the increasing locked gates and lock outs we are experiencing in south FL. We're talking a million acres that guys like me, bohica, meateater, pinman, and others here used to be able to enjoy in all its splendor, in all its seasons, with a simple car ride, or bike ride.
This access and usage issue (the thinking, legislative, and implementation process of it all) spans across several agencies too. It's not just a WMD, FWC, or FDEP problem. Heck, half the time they deflect and pawn the issues back and forth until the inquiring minds just give up. It's a classic example of the left hand not knowing (or caring) what the right hand is doing.
I really wish I knew the true pecking order but there are so many hands in this soup that I seriously doubt anyone truly knows who is actually in pole position down here. What I DO know is that access and recreational opportunities keep diminishing and every year there is a new reason. It's little wonder some of the frustrated among us spout off from time to time with the wrong signal call.

I read a couple of weeks ago that Bidens people are going to ban hunting and fishing on Federal owned land. Don't know if it's true or not.
