Well we saw a little weather window sat evening and made the decision to head out in the afternoon and see if we could fish into the evening and catch a Snapper or two. We brought live shrimp and frozen sardines for bait and lots of chum and rolled out to 100'. Very nice out there so it took no time. Hit our first area and saw a nice show and started chumming. Lots of Almaco's but we started pulling up some very nice sized yellowtails. The only hard part was getting the shrimp on a SnappaSlappa Jig past the Almaco jacks but we worked through them and got 30 nice Yellowtail with the majority of them being in the 20-24" range. Bigger than usual for 100' of water. As the sun was setting and the bite slowing down a tad we decided to make a move to a Mango spot a mile away. Bite wasn't the greatest there but we plugged away for a couple hours and got 30 more Mangos for our limit. Also got a lot of Lanes and beeliners as well. As soon as I gave the 15 more minutes warning, one of our guys hooks up and this fish is fighting very hard. We're all thinking really BIG Mango, but it flashes itself and it's a nice Permit! first time for that while Snapper fishing so that was a cool wrap to the evening. Most of our Yellowtail were caught using 1/4oz Snappaslappa jig with live shrimp. Caught a few on small sardine chunks and frozen shrimp chunks seemed to work really well too. The Mangs were feeding closer to the bottom so we were getting most of those on heavier 3/8-1/2 jigs with live shrimp and frozen sardines. Current was light most of the day but moving towards the bow so it made it a little more difficult than usual but it all worked out. Till next time, tight lines!
