I've been after this Florida buck for years-same spot..problem is the rut is over before my quota pull and I only get into this WMA every other year because of preference points. I WANT to take him with archery..will have a decision to make if he shows on Muzz or Gun. I didn't put the camera out in 2022 thinking it may be spooking him. Didn't see him on 2022 hunts but they closed the WMA for Hurricane early Oct Archery. I'm not putting the camera out again and hope to get a shot this year. I got my preference points back (Hurricane reissue)so I can try in 2023. He wasn't taken/shot yet (photo's at the check station) so unless he died of natural causes he's still there. He should be a registry buck if not already. Got tons of video on him at at all times of day and night..
Heading out scouting the Oaks for acorns now that they'll be visible on the trees.

Good luck this year!

You're certainly putting the work in. Hope someone on their first hunt doesn't get him by accident. Often happens on public land. We have lots of old time hunters on this thread and maybe they know when the consistent rut dates are down here. I've been here since 2004 and have hunted the same piece of private ground (2000 acres) in zone B for 17 years and still have no clue. Our cameras will show fawns over a two to three month spread sometimes more. In all honesty I grew too old for serious deer hunting anyplace I can't get a truck into for recovery. My dragging days are over so that leaves out all the WMAs and most of this private spot. I do know when the "turkey rut" starts and they are my passion now. My deer days are probably over and that isn't a bad thing just the way it is. We do keep an eye on them however so I'll often post pictures when a big one shows up to have a photo op.
We've now hijacked averagehunter's original question but I think it is obvious that reading the specific WMAs brochure is the secret. Would have no problem being a guest hunter on each others permits for the different dates as long as the season limits and WMA limits are followed. Wouldn't even ask or disclose if checked. No reason to IMO (but always have bail money - lol).
BTW - haven't read them all but, at least, for spring turkey no WMA in the quota system seems to allow any other game to be taken on a hunt. Good. Not sure the guys that draw a hard to access WMA deer hunt are that thrilled when someone that has already taken a deer are still stomping around, spreading their scent, hunting for a bonus hog or coyote. I wouldn't be.

Lots of good information and interesting topics discussed... that's why I lurk this forum and the FS one before it! Thanks for all the help!

If you guys have same permit then not guests. If diff permit dates then, yes - guests.
I do this w a buddy - gives us 2 hunts a year instead of one. Crazy how it works.

I tied it on my bike and rolled it out.

Only 70. You're just a kid. I'll turn 77 in two weeks. Didn't enjoy packing in stands when I was 27. The good old days. Bow, back pack, and 20# of a two piece Baker tree stand. I'm sure I have a picture of my original Baker somewhere. Lol.
