Why are you guys still gutting your deer? Unless it's for lightening your load back to the truck, I can't see the need. Even then, I'll debone the meat and bring the head out if the drag is too much of a pain in the ass. Or, I'm driving in to pick the deer up if the terrain permits. Sheath looks good Josh. Some wmas require you to bring deer backto the check station whole. When the heat index is over 100 degrees I’m gutting them asap , and filling the cavity with ice when getting back to the truck. I can tell you don’t hunt wmas much.😆… rules and more rules.👎

It’s on the pricey side but my motto is what you pay for is what you get and with that I really like silver stag the crown skinner. It’s deer meat for dinners signature knife he designed specifically for skinning hogs and deer. And the other is called woods n water. That one is a lot longer so you can reach in the guys and not get dirty. I love them both. Razor sharp and when they go dull you can ship it back to them and they’ll sharpen it for you again i would rather use a bud light bottle cap or a spoon

Now that we've lost our hunting properties to a new EV battery facility I'm gonna have to relearn a few things. At the very least I'll have to greatly lower my expectations and get back into better physical condition to keep up. But, don't be surprised if you see a pickup truck off-roading where it's not supposed to be. That might just be me rolling in to pick up a deer or hog. I've always planned to drive in as close to the kill as possible in order to facilitate my own well being and the quality of my game. You can absolutely believe that!

I know with those knives I cut what I want. There’s no wiggling around or having to use a lot of force to cut something. All I gotta do is graze what I want cut and it’s cut like it was hit with a laser

a wealthy guy who almost exclusively hunts private land now pimping knives , i guess it would make a great addition to the guys who already own the bear grylls survival knife.

But if you’re looking for a quality skinning knife then that’s my pick. And I do not have a bear grylls knife😂 shit you could put him in a room and I couldn’t pick him out even if I had a gun to my head. I was in the same position as the person who started this thread (I forgot who it was) and I took the chance on his knife being he’s a Florida hunter so he designed it specifically for the stuff we skin and clean and I don’t regret it. Another one I really like is buck knives. Buck 110BRSCB Model 110 Folding Hunter Lockback Pocket Knife It’s about 50 bucks and a really good knife that holds its edge very well

Hey, I used to think big sheath knives were for dumb yankees. Then I watched a documentary years ago about real life mountain men in Siberia and I noticed they all carried bowie or old fashioned big butcher knives on their hips and used them quite a bit while showing their daily lives in front of the camera. I tried carrying one in the woods and I won’t go back to a pocket knife now. A good sheath knife is so useful. And nothing skins better. I can skin and quarter a deer in 15 minutes with one. I’ll post pics of mine later.

I carry a small sheath knife and a large folder and a tiny Swiss Army knife. I often leave the sheath knife in the truck. If I’m by myself the knives can help me spend the night or stay comfortable if a problem arises. Heck I’ve had an affinity for knives sense I was a youngster. I have some expensive ones, some well made inexpensive and some relatively cheap ones that have become collectors. My kids, grandkids and friends kids will have knives in the future if they want them.

I’ve found a good belt sharpener makes cheapies made of surgical steel a lot more useful. I can put a good edge on a surgical steel knife and it lasts a long time.

The top is a Strider MSS. Bottom is a Pathfinder Grizzly. Both knives are out of production but Pathfinder makes several similar models.

It's pretty simple. I don't waste the bones, later I make about of gallon of finished bone broth per deer. I like the 4 shanks whole for braising.
Rib meat goes into the grind.
Exactly. Never understood those that spent hours and hours hunting, then tossing out a lot of the good flavorful parts to save time. Like the heart! and bones and the little tenderloin things inside the rib cage.

I don’t gut mine until I’m done quartering. Then I spill the guts and let the chickens have all the organs. They’ll clean in up in a day. The dogs get all the bones after I’m done deboning. I dump the head and the ribs. I don’t save antlers.

Cold steel Master hunter and Cold steel Mini Pendelton. Bought a bunch as factory seconds decades ago. A rare smart move!
