My son gave me a book called Dad I want to hear your story. It is alot of questions about you, your life, the good, and the bad. I would have thought he already knew everything, we are fairly tight.
But there was a question in the book about what is the difference between how kids are raised now and how is was when I was a kid.
Putting aside the obvious safety question (I am sure that you were like me, left the house after breakfast and came back for dinner at dark, I do not think that is possible now), my first observation is that kids have so much shoved into their daily timeline and agenda that they panic when they are actually left alone and have to grab a screen. Even my grandkids, who I think are smart and well balanced are like that.

Just like every generation technology dictates what's considered fun. I don't necessarily agree with certain things but it's how they are going to navigate the future as adults. I wish I had all the answers I needed in my pocket when I was growing up. Youtube is one of my favorite things that's happened in my lifetime. Endless amount of learning on there.

I was bailing hay, picking pecans and strawberries, mowing yards and taking care of the livestock.
Play time was fishing and hunting.
I thank God every day that I grew up in the pre internet daysđź‘Ť

I'll play music on YouTube and watch a few shows on YoutubeTV at night, mostly cooking, house renovation or cars. Not much of anything else.

History lectures.
NASCAR races.
Music. A lot of music.
Cops chasing cars.

We were just discussing this. We’re not really sure what the difference is, I believe we were a lot safer growing up than the kids today. You might be right about the technological advantages available today.
We were pretty poor so if you wanted something you had to earn enough money to buy it. Our parents made sure we had a roof over our heads and food to eat. I worked at a farm when I was around twelve cutting egg plants, bell peppers and cucumbers. I worked after school and weekends (around baseball) during high school. When you earn your money, you tend to appreciate things. When someone doles out the money, the stuff bought doesn’t mean as much. I think we spoiled our kids trying to make sure they had everything they wanted.

^Vote Up, me and my sister grew up trailer park poor. We knew where government cheese came from. Mom got her shit together and we trudged up to middle class. She asked me what I wanted for Christmas. I said I wanted a pair of Air Jordan sneakers. Well what do you know, a pair of Jordan 23’s were under the Christmas tree, she looked at me and said “ I had to clean up a lot of shit and puke for those shoes.” I spoil my kids but they understand the concept of a hard days work.
