Had I not had the ability of a pretty decent football player there is no doubt in my mind I woukd have 1) never graduated 2) fi shed school My dad dropped outing the 9th or 10th grade. My mom dropped out to marry him. At 81 years old my dad to this day says that not finishing school and enabling my mom to drop out are his two biggest regrets. He did get his GED but he says it's just not the same. He tried and tried to get my mom to do it but my mom like with everything in life took the path of elast resistance and made every excuse as to why she just couldn't do it. She didn't want to and it required effort.
My dad was adamant his children were going to graduate High School. There was absolutely no plan for after but we were going to graduate one way or another. I wish he'd woukd have been a little harder on me academically. But as I've gotten older and u serstood where he came from he did the best he could because it's hard to enforce or prepare for something you yourself don't know. I was absolutely not ready or mature enough for college. The only reason I even wanted to go was to continue to play football. Which is about the only reason I coukd be bothered to attend high school. It was boring. One of my favorite teachers use to cry to my parents that I was bored and unchallenged by her curriculum. I guess I had a touch of my mom's laziness too π
