May have to add a little floatation and go back with 225s or 250s.

x2 If you powered over the 200's would that be past the recommendation and put you into the positions to lose yoUr insurance? (if you have any) When I bought it it has 2 stroke 250s. They are pretty heavy on the hull. Compounded by the previous owner putting g 10" jackplate to lift the motors. Which put 1000lbs 10" farther back. It's rated for 400. An agreed price policy several years ago was stupid especially considering I'd basically pay the agreed price in 3-4 years just for insurance. I've heard several people say they have had a hard time insuring older boats. My biggest concern is fuel economy and range. I'm more than happy with a 40 WOT and a ~30 cruise. And most think the 150s would do that. Of course I'd rather havw 200's. I had a floatation "pod" built to go under the bracket that worked very well with the 250s. So if I have to go with 225/250s that's still an option. Why Stamas built those boats with no floatation for the bracket is beyond me. They are good solid built boats but that bracket has left me scratching my head a time or 2. Apparently mine was a weird prototype because most of the brackets are 24" mine is 36". I would love to get 2 mpg. That would tickle me pink

With my fuel capacity (145 gallons or 190 w/ a tank switch) a but 100 mile trip like the Grounds or the Elbow was easily doable. I didn't have a hard time insuring it I just decided that I would self insure it. Wish I never sold her.

I didn't have a hard time insuring it I just decided that I would self insure it. Wish I never sold her. Those 2 strokes I was lucky to get 1 mpg. Reel Stamas had the exact same boat. His dad bought it at the Miami boat show in 89 if I'm not mistaken bought the hull and towed it home slapped 200 Johnsons on it. They were so thirsty he added 2 25 gal saddle tanks to make the long trips. He ran Honda 225s on his for ~20 years before the corrosion got to them. Heavy pigs. Only way I'd get rid of this one would be for a 94 or up 290 Express (the old 288 libery hull) which is the next step up from mine. I saw a liberty for sale a couple of years ago and I really considered buying it at the price. Already had 4 stroke power. My only complaint is I wish I had more beam

Robolo boats many years ago were tanks. The past 20 years they've just gotten to be run of the mill production boats. What part of the gulf do you run out of? Fuel capacity and range would be at the top of my list. It's not hard to run 150 miles round trip I owned this 1981 Robalo and also a 1990. The 1981 was a true tank for sure. Have you looked at the Contenders, Sea Hunters or SeaVees?
