Phase 1 results are today. Good luck to whoever else put in. In my opinion the gator program is one of the few things the FWC kind of got right.

I’m fairly certain I’ll be getting twice as many as I did last year.

There should be a recreational permit for less money and the inability to sell. Never have understood why recreational and commercial were lumped together.

Anyone apply for that super hunt? I’m thinking about throwing $5.00 at it but I’m no gambler.

Years ago, back home in Boca Grande, the local marina owner, would get dozens and dozens of us locals to fill out the cards for the annual gator lottery, or whatever they called it. Every year 4 or 5 islanders got selected, or so it seemed. The catch was the person drawn had to actually go on the hunt. I got picked once, and I happily went along. I had fun, just drank beer and watched for the most part. On an airboat, north side of Okeechobee. Pretty cool stuff.

A little tongue in cheek but, the state needs to allow about 9 months of hunting and another 10000 permits to their ridiculous money grab and further reduce the population. They're becoming a nuisance everywhere, and have lost their fear of humans for the most part.

He wasn't making the tag holders go with him most of the time; he was just using their tags and selling the hides. I still don't think anyone knows why, he didn't need the cash.

Agree, and agree. As you know he was a strange cat. Dated his daughter, ended up close friends with his son, and then wife, who was his ex-wife, but remarried. He did get hung up on charges for sure. I think probation and no jail time. I loathed him for many years, but he did hire me to work the dock in my teens, and I kept the bait pens full during tarpon season. I think he hired me because I was polite, and he knew I could catch bait. We had a strange relationship, as I feared him, but then he gave me a pass. You know what I'm talking about, he was one of a kind. I think he's still alive, living on the lakes on the Kissimmee chain, but I could be wrong. People wonder why my head is messed up about fishing. You know who've I've worked for. 😀

Everyone needs at least one “strange cat” outlaw in their lives. Builds character

I’ve known more than a few strange cat outlaws over the years. Still know a few. Hope it built some character 😂 but mostly taught me what not to do.

Ben— do you not have any gators or permanent wetlands on your land? I’m surprised you’re not in the private lands program. I get 10-15 tags each year for the property I manage.

We've a few......but none of serious size......8-9ft at most......and.....invariable one or two of the guys who lease the land have Putnam County tags so we let them go at it.

Looked at 2nd choice options and decided to pass.
Did the rest of my quota apps while i was in there. should get rifle & ML hunts.
At 3 pts on Woodruff - not sure if that's enough. At 6 pts on MINWR - not sure if that's enough.

Do we know how many super hunt quotas they’re giving out? I tried looking it up and all I can find is they’re planning on issuing 5-100. Better finish planning quick. I’m betting on 5.

The gator management rules in Florida, much like most all the other game and fish laws in Florida are flat stupid.

There should be a recreational permit for less money and the inability to sell. Never have understood why recreational and commercial were lumped together. I am with Pin on this one..... Let Me buy a permit for a single gator.... Complete Recreational.... No sale of any parts...... And no profit made in any way from taking the gator.... I say this because if I had such a tag and word got out that I had it... I would have people with ponds calling me left and right.
And let me take it where I want and by any humane method of my choosing.... And the tag is good from August 30th to February 15th.. To avoid killing a gravid or nesting female.
With a limit of maybe two pure recreational tags per person....
