I was considering going w one as the tent extends over the open tailgate so you could use it in a 5’ truck bed. Before I made my decision I found an old small camp trailer with ac/heat. It’s just what I needed.

I like using a topper instead of the truck/tent because you don't have to break camp to travel. I just close my door and I'm on my way. The topper may not work well with kids though, I would go with just a plain tent with the kids.

Only time I tent camp is with the grandkids. They are at that age where listening to things outside the tent at night is magical. They also insist that I sleep in front of the door.LOL

I can't wait to camp with my grandbabies. The oldest is 2 in a couple of weeks. The current baby turned 1 last month. And the newest will be making her arrival in Mayish

I would love to have a camper shell/topper. But I can't justify the expense. I mean I do own a van and an Excursion. The van is an E350 ext on 37s. It has no seats. Plenty of room matter of fact that's why I bout it

If you want to camp in Florida during cooler months, look for campgrounds without electricity. Otherwise you’ll have to book a year in advance like the hordes of snowbirds do. Camping in a fully booked, crowded campground is not much fun anyway (personal opinion). Didn’t they recently change the rules to give us like a month advance to book before the out of staters can?

Florida residents may make campsite or cabin reservations up to 11 months in advance. Non-Florida residents may make campsite or cabin reservations up to 10 months in advance.

I really wish I could plan my life 10 mo tha in advance. Usually 10 minutes is a pretty good stretch. But occasionally I look out 10 days

Over the years I've owned a variety of truck campers and pull behinds. Now down to just a quick set tent Wife just laughs when I ask if she wants to go. Anyway I would like to go to any of the State Parks in the Keys in the cooler months but am seeing they appear to be booked up a year in advance. Any insider secrets of where to go? Just be me, a tent, pulling a 16' Carolina Skiff. Thanks Does it have to be state? Sugarloaf had the KOA and tents were allowed before the hurricane wiped it out. Maybe it’s allowed still. Not a horrible place except maybe mini-season Good fishing down that way

I wrote this for the guy asking about gear but it i can't post it there... See tent part if interested in florida compatible tents. Florida is a big state ranging from tropical subtropical to near temperate. Then you have all the coast, inland forested Florida trail and state parks, rivers and inland water ways, etc. Be helpful for you to narrow it down a bit. I'll start with some advice. Tent - good light weight tent for 2 people and make sure the entire top part of the tent is ALL screen and the fly covers the entire tent. Oh yeah, you camp in winter unless you are by the water where you can cool off. And someplace winter only cause if mosquitos...everglades, 10,000 islands. A tent something like this. Lightweight, super breathable, real fly thats makes it completely waterproof. Shop around you can get great deals. sierradesigns.com/meteor-2-person-tent/
