I'm wanting to hunt hogs in the Panhandle. What do I need to know with hunting on public land?
Calibers allowed? Safety? Seasons? Best caliber? Best guns?

Definitely check the WMA regulations first. That will give you an idea of what you can hunt with and when/where.
Will you be stand hunting or slip/still hunting?

Each WMA is probably going to have a different set of rules. Pick a WMA read the rules but don't assume that the same rules apply to the next one.

I just did a quick look and it appears that Yellow River has some upcoming hog hunts, take a look there for a start.

Yes, check WMAs near you first. Every one has different seasons and most are probably done until next fall. The rules in each WMA will also dictate if you can use and rifle or are limited to shotguns. Might want to just go on a paid Hog hunt to get your feet wet if you dont have any experience. Youll probably learn more in a half day than you would in a month on a forum and trying on your own. Good luck!

Check out Clay Hayes YouTube channel. He does some traditional archery hog hunts in the panhandle and I believe some are on the Yellow River. It might give you some ideas on how to hunt this area. There's also some upcoming hunts on the Choctawhatchee WMA that are gun/dog hog hunts, again check the regulations too make sure. The regulations MAY specify what type of gun that you are allowed to use.
