It’s been a long time since I’ve hunted them with dogs, but I killed four last week and probably 40 over the last year. Don’t have to drive anywhere either, just walk less than 200 yards from my front door. I use a cell cam to let me know when they cross the fence onto my neighbor’s property. I try to stop them there before they get to mine.

Where’s the dogs w the big heads? Never knew folks ran hogs without pits. Some of the best refuse to use them. Silent trailers with a little backup when they bay one. A Catahula if extra muscle is needed.

Some people use pits, some don't.... Some folks just use hounds or curs and hand catch them when the hog bays up...
And As BSWIV mentioned.... Someone do something in between... Something like a like a Catahoula, old working line Airedale (Rare these days)etc that has a little more fight to it.
I LIKE Pits, I have owned several. But a truly dead game pit bull terrier can be a bit of a pain. MOST will usually go after the hogs... But they were originally bred to fight other dogs. So dog aggression is in their temperament. So there is always a chance the pit is going to latch on to one of the bay dogs rather than a pig...
When I was in high school I thought I was going to see a murder in the woods over such an issue. One guy in our group's BEST Catch dog latched on to another guys best strike dog. A smallish redbone hound........
We got them apart pretty quickly... But it took the Redbone was torn up pretty good. Had to get stitched up and took him a while to heal up. Three people including me got bit. All by the Redbone. The pit never let go of the dog and once the owner had his rear legs off the ground another guy broke his grip with a break stick... It was us that were holding the redbone that got bit up. Not the dog''s fault... He was in a fight hurting and biting at anything. And when we got the pit off of him the Redbone wanted to go again.
Someone shot the hog we were on and we were catching and tying out dogs.. The redbone owner was tending to his dog. Next thing you know he gets up and clocks the pit owner in the face...... Took us longer to get those two apart than it did the dogs..... All of had knives... most of us had pistols.... I thought someone was getting killed.

I was involved w deer dog hunting once and it was fun. Took longer to round the dogs up than run the deer.
These fellows were serious, one dog liked to go running off and guy told someone to shoot it and bring back the collar.
