Anyone interested in going on a 3 day hunt? Prices are around 1k each with lodging minus airfare etc.
Its always a crap shot trying to figure out what state is best but when you're on em it's a fun hunt.

Pretty tempting - but not this season. Calendar and responsibilities are keeping me tied up.

I got to shoot them one time in Eagle Lake, TX. Rice fields next to a resivor that had thousands of them on it. When they got up in the morning you couldnt see through the flock. One thing for sure is do not let a dead one hit you when they fall. I had a close call. They hit the ground hard. All the guys from Texas werent going to keep theirs so I breasted theirs and mine. I brought it home, cut it into strips, marinated it and we grilled it at camp one night. We all liked it. They call them sky carp out there. They are cool to watch coming into land in the field and they have their feet down and do all these acrobatics trying to burn off speed for landing.

Honestly, I would rather hunt them during regular waterfowl season. Trying to time the migration more than a week out from a hunt is a pain in the ass and can easily result in a little bit of dissatisfaction. They are a tough bird to hunt. When you have several thousand eyes looking for danger, all it takes is for one bird to scream the wrong tune and the whole flock just eases away from your set up leaving you wringing your fists.
I've killed them in Texas during regular season and hunted them at Squaw Creek, MO in the spring and can confidently tell you the spring hunting is WAY more frustrating. Watching a few million birds every day is a sight to behold but a cold shotgun barrel is more common than not during a typical spring migration hunt. In a 3 day hunt, you should realistically expect MAYBE 1 day of OK shooting. Anything more than that is the exception, not the rule. A barrel melting hunt is rare and mostly had by guys who can drop whatever they're doing today to be in a pit tomorrow.
I found watching 10000 plus birds coming together, forming a tornado, and shitting on your face as they circle, much more rewarding and providing better shooting during regular season.
Talk about absolute chaos? A huge flock of snow geese trying to land in a Texas pea field is a accurate description of chaos. Unbelievably LOUD and chaotic.
Keep your expectations reasonable and you'll enjoy it. If you think you're going to lay waste to 100 birds each day, you're going to be disappointed. Still, I love it!

I was inside one of those goose tornadoes in 1995. Very neat experience.
Dont expect much, have fun. Hope for the best!
