So.......this afternoon.....in the rain......we decided to go see if we could put a bit of a dint in the sounder(s) that have been savaging one of the pine stands on the south end. Counting the creek that bisects them the stand is about 130 acres, bordered by a second stand of larger trees and a couple of creeks. And right now....it's all a wet mess. Hogs have been hammering the red root in there. Even to the point where they've toppled few pines based on the areas of disturbance just about made burning it a nightmare. About 4:15 we split up at the truck, Louann going down the north edge and me taking the south end, the south end being a good third of a mile down the road and then down to the west a ways. And not 5 minutes after I walked all that way and got off into the woods......her rifle goes off on the north end. Damn! Got to hustle all that way back. The first picture......and you need to look carefully.....is the sounder she slipped up on that was dogpiled ( hog piled? ) up under a palm. How she saw it, and how she got close enough to get a picture without spooking them I'll never know. Anyway.....she got the quick picture and then was stuck with the question of what to do. I mean, you can't just shoot up in there amongst them. Her idea.....make a little noise and hope one of them has to look back.......and one did. Only problem......I've still not instilled the idea of shooting them CLOSER TO THE ROAD!!
